With the start of the boys golf regular season, as well as the beginning of practices for the other fall sports and activities, the 2021-22 CHSAA calender is officially in full swing.
Boys golf kicked things off with the start of regular season contests, Aug. 5. Softball and boys tennis will follow that with the first contests taking place this Thursday, Aug. 12.
A majority of fall sports will commence Thursday, Aug. 19, as cross country, field hockey, gymnastics, boys soccer, spirit, girls volleyball, and unified bowling will get their respective seasons started. Finally, Colorado high school football teams will make their return to the gridiron starting Thursday, Aug. 26.
“It was an honor to work with our schools last year to provide the opportunity to compete, but the return to a more traditional look for Colorado High School football is exciting,” CHSAA Assistant Commissioner Adam Bright said. “Seven championship games in two premier venues will help generate the championship experience that is associated with football in the fall in Colorado. Whether it’s in the mountains, in the city, or on the plains, a successful return to ‘Friday Night Lights’ will add another page to the storied history that is high school football in Colorado.”
“We are so excited to start the year with a calendar, set dates, and the expectation of offering full opportunities for all of our student participants,” Assistant Commissioner Bethany Brookens said. “Our teams, coaches, and players have endured and overcome tremendous odds, and this year will truly be a celebration!”
“Just to say we are starting fall sports on time is good feeling,” Associate Commissioner Tom Robinson stated. “With the knowledge of how and what we accomplished last year, it signals what we can do and the confidence with which we can do it. I am looking forward to seeing are student-athletes in action with a full complement of activities.”
