Abraham Lincoln student leaders welcome the Class of 2025

It’s easy to forget that at smaller schools, fewer students can often wear a greater number of hats.

This is the case at Abraham Lincoln, as many of the school’s student leaders are also Link Crew leaders. Link Crew is an orientation program for incoming ninth-graders that looks to familiarize them with the campus days before the rest of the student body arrives for classes.

577The program is driven by a large group of junior and senior students who provide positive mentorship for incoming students. That mentorship is more than just the day’s activities. It is about building a connection with a group of students that will last for months to come.

On Wednesday, Lancers freshmen enjoyed a day of activities that included discovering programs the school offers, outdoor games, and a tour of the building. Among the many activities the students were treated to, a portable ropes course was built on the blacktop on the northeast side of the building. Kids were encouraged to overcome their fears, think positive thoughts and enjoy their time on the course.

These are the same things that they will be asked to do as students in the classroom.

Student leaders have been looking forward to sharing the history of the school and just being back on campus. Of course, while they spend the day talking about what it means to be a Lancer, they are also looking forward to shifting gears to begin planning for their homecoming week.

A special shout out to Cassandra Tafoya-Chavez and the staff at Abraham Lincoln High School for making me feel like I was at home in their school. We wish this group, and all our student leadership groups, the very best as they plan for a year of campus activities and events. If your group would like to share what you are doing, send me an email (rdavis@chsaa.org).
