Montrose boys basketball beats Eagle Valley to keep unblemished record intact

MONTROSE – Third-ranked Montrose faced Eagle Valley at home Saturday, winning the non-league contest 59-47 and remaining unbeaten.

“Good team win today versus a very solid Eagle Valley team,” Montrose head coach Ryan Voehringer said. “I thought my starters played solid for three quarters, leading 55-22. My young guys came in for the fourth and struggled with Eagle’s pressure. Credit to Eagle Valley.

“We were led in scoring by Luke Hutto, who had 20 points and five rebounds. And Trey Reese was also effective with 12 points, eight rebounds and six assists.”

Montrose (19-0) led 12-5 after the first quarter and pushed that lead to 40-18 at halftime. It was a low-scoring third quarter, as the Indians led 55-22. The Devils (14-6) got hot in the fourth, but Montrose was able to hold on and win 59-47.

Luke Hutto scored 20 points and Ashden Oberg had 16 points for Montrose.

“I think as a team we moved the ball well,” Montrose senior Cody Proctor said. “We got the ball inside and Ashden had a good first half for us. Our defense has been the key all season and I think we had another good game on that side of the ball.”

For Eagle Valley, Branden Escudero had ten points. Nikko Von Stralendorff had nine points.
