Montrose girls basketball back above .500 with win over Grand Junction

In front of a big senior night crowd, the Montrose girls basketball team faced Grand Junction on Friday. Montrose won in a rout, 56-21. With the win, Montrose moved back above .500 at 11-10.

Montrose jumped out to a 7-2 lead. They extended the lead to 11-4 after the first quarter.

They continued to up the lead to 14-4 and then 17-4. Their lead went to 16 at 24-8 at halftime.

Montrose came out and scored the first ten points of the third quarter to make it 34-8. They led 43-13 after three quarters. Montrose outscored the Tigers 13-6 in the fourth quarter and won, 56-21.

“Really proud of how we came out and played with a lot of energy and effort tonight,” Montrose head coach Steve Skiff said. “It was great to get a win on senior night. I thought all four seniors had great nights which was great to see.”

Senior Siera Mihavetz had 13 points. Fellow senior Josie Coulter had nine. The other two seniors, Ashley Ortega and Taylor Yanosky had eight points apiece.

Grand Junction junior Riley Applegate had nine points. Senior Sada Bond and junior Brooklyn Carver had four points apiece.

Montrose will be at Grand Junction Central, Feb 17. The Tigers will be at Fruita Monument, Feb. 18.
