State track and field: Weather contingency plan

The Colorado High School Activities Association is excited for the upcoming track and field state championships, scheduled for May 19-21 at Jeffco Stadium. We have been monitoring the weather from many reputable sources and the plan remains for the three-day meet to begin as scheduled on May 19.

With regards to the weather, Thursday is expected to be warm and while we will be prepared with cooling protocols, please make sure your athletes are hydrated and ready for the heat. Friday’s forecast is predicting temeratures in the 50s with cloud cover and on-and-off light rain. The raing is expected to increase between 6-7 p.m. on Friday and potentially turn into snow. By Saturday morning, there is expected to be some accumulation and cold temperatures.

If the snow does stick on the track at Jeffco Stadium, we will continue to monitor the conditions throughout Saturday and hope for an opportunity to compete and finish the meet as scheduled. If the track remains unplayable, the meet will be moved to the next available day, which is Sunday, May 22, in order to finish the state championships.
