3A girls soccer: Kent Denver, Jefferson Academy to play for title

(1) Kent Denver 1, (5) Lutheran 0 (OT)
(2) Jefferson Academy 1, (3) Colorado Academy 0

The defending champions are back in the Class 3A girls soccer state title game.

In the state semifinals on Thursday night at UCCS Mountain Lion Stadium, the top-seeded Sun Devils won 1-0 in overtime over No. 6 Lutheran to punch their ticket back to the game they won last spring to claim their first title since 2016. The Sun Devils will be playing for their program’s seventh girls soccer championship when they take the field at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park on Tuesday.

If the Sun Devils are able to win, it will mark their sixth state championship since 2000.

In the title game, the Sun Devils will face No. 2 Jefferson Academy. The Jaguars eliminated No. 3 Colorado Academy with a 1-0 victory in the opposite semifinal on Thursday. The result of that game prevented a title-game rematch from last year’s championship, in which Kent Denver won 1-0 against Colorado Academy.

Jefferson Academy and Kent Denver played one another during the regular season. Kent Denver won that game, 2-0.

Kent Denver’s only loss this season came against a talented Northfield team that will play in the Class 4A state championship next week.
