Regis Jesuit’s Dallas Macias named Gatorade Colorado Baseball Player of the Year

CHICAGO — Gatorade today announced Dallas Macias of Regis Jesuit is the 2021-22 Gatorade Colorado Baseball Player of the Year. Macias is the second Gatorade Colorado Baseball Player of the Year to be chosen from Regis Jesuit.

The senior shortstop batted .557 with 16 doubles, seven home runs and 28 RBIs this past season, leading the Raiders to a 23-5 record and the double-elimination Class 5A state tournament, where they fell in three games. The state’s No. 3 prospect as ranked by both Perfect Game and the Prep Baseball Report, Macias also stole eight bases, scored 42 runs and reached base at a .632 clip, striking out just seven times in 95 plate appearances.

A devoted parishioner in his church community, Macias has volunteered locally on behalf of the Special Olympics and as a youth baseball coach.

“Dallas Macias is the ultimate team leader and clutch hitter,” said Bradley Johnson, head coach at ThunderRidge High School. “Any time Regis Jesuit needed him to come up big for them this year, he came through. In my opinion, there is no one we played that comes close to his abilities as a competitor.”

Macias has maintained a 3.73 GPA in the classroom. He has signed a National Letter of Intent to play baseball on scholarship at Oregon State University this fall.

The award, which recognizes not only outstanding athletic excellence, but also high standards of academic achievement and exemplary character demonstrated on and off the field, distinguishes Macias as Colorado’s best high school baseball player. Now a finalist for the prestigious Gatorade National Baseball Player of the Year award to be announced in June, Macias joins an elite alumni association of state award-winners in 12 sports, including Derek Jeter (1991-92, Kalamazoo High School, Mich.), Jon Lester (2001-02, Bellarmine Preparatory School, Wash.), David Price (2003-04, Blackman High School, Tenn.), Clayton Kershaw (2005-06, Highland Park High School, Texas), Rick Porcello (2006-07, Seaton Hall Preparatory School, N.J.) and Kris Bryant (2009-10, Bonanza High School, Nev.).

The Gatorade Player of the Year program annually recognizes one winner in the District of Columbia and each of the 50 states that sanction high school football, girls volleyball, boys and girls cross country, boys and girls basketball, boys and girls soccer, baseball, softball, and boys and girls track & field, and awards one National Player of the Year in each sport. The selection process is administered by the Gatorade Player of the Year Selection Committee, which leverages experts including coaches, scouts, media and others as sources to help evaluate and determine the state winners in each sport.

Macias joins recent Gatorade Colorado Baseball Players of the Year Radek Birkholz (2020-21, Valor Christian High School), Jack Moss (2019-20, Cherry Creek High School), Riley Cornelio (2018-19, Pine Creek High School), and Justin Olson (2017-18, Pine Creek High School), among the state’s list of former award winners.
