CHSAA Hosts Inaugural Officiate Colorado Day

The Colorado High School Activities Association, in conjunction with the National Association of Sports Officials (NASO) hosted the inaugural Officiate Colorado Day Saturday, July 30, in Westminster.

The event was years in the making, originating from the late CHSAA Associate Commissioner overseeing officials, Tom Robinson. His vision became reality in a day full of learning and collaboration.

Over 350 officials from across the state converged to take part in sport specific breakouts, give awards to outstanding officials across 10 sports, and sit in on information sessions from distinguished officials from across the country.

“CHSAA is so honored to be part of such a special day recognizing men and women that allow us to reach our vision and mission as an organization” CHSAA Commissioner Mike Krueger stated. “Officials are partners in what we do to provide opportunities for the young men and women that participate in our athletics and activities. We’re extremely fortunate to partner with the NASO to recognize them and honor them for all that they do.”

Among the officials recognized for their outstanding contributions to the sports they officiate were:

Baseball: Greg Holstine
Basketball: Jim Dorsey
Football: Clair Gausman
Gymnastics: Kathy Randle
Soccer: Bill Gessner
Softball: William “Buddy” Brotherton
Swimming: Monica Abelein
Track and Field: Jim Gjerde
Volleyball: Jim Henthorn
Wrestling: Kirk Waldero

This event segues into the 2022 NASO Sports Officiating Summit, where more than 500 officiating leaders from all sports and all levels of competition across the country will be on hand. Representatives from National Governing Bodies, state associations, college conferences, rules-making bodies, local officials associations, leagues, units and boards will all be in attendance.
