Playing rules, tournament format and team composition
The state competition will be tournament play. All teams will play in an open format. There will be no bracket. The top two scores (based on total pinfall) will determine the state champion and runner-up. The CHSAA has one competitive interscholastic division for unified bowling.

Teams will consist of up to five players, three competing and two substitutions.

Team make-up:

A. The three students competing should be comprised with at least two students (athletes) with an intellectual disability (see “Eligibility” below) and 1 non-intellectually disabled student (partner). Coaches may play an additional student with an intellectual disability as a partner.

Unified Sports teams must be comprised of boys and girls making it co-ed. A student with a physical disability may participate as a partner.

The Baker format is an exciting and truly team-based method of bowling. A Baker Game is when multiple bowlers bowl one game. Team members will rotate between the three on roll a ball. This will take place for all games. Regardless of a spare or strike the next participant will roll the ball. The Baker Trio format gives equal playing time for each member; creating meaningful participation that is essential to the Unified Sports® model.

Each trio team will bowl 5 Baker games within each meet. The winner of the meet will be decided by total pinfall. This means that the total score from all 5 games for each team is added together and the team with the most pins wins the event.
