CHSAA announces Waner Bartolotta hall of fame banquet host

CHSAA staff members announced that former ThunderRidge and Duke University women’s basketball phenom, Abby Waner Bartolotta, would serve as the host for the association’s 34th annual event, scheduled for 5 p.m., Jan. 23, 2023, at the Marriott Denver Tech Center.

While Bartolotta is no longer making decisions on the court, she has her hands full with multiple duties off the court. She serves as a member of the ThunderRidge High School Hall of Fame, works as a public speaker, and in her full-time role, Abby is in commercial real estate. With all those titles, it is still her role as a wife and mother of two that give Abby the greatest joy.

“As a teacher at neighboring Highlands Ranch High School back in the day, I remember watching Abby play. She is truly one of the best.” said Assistant Commissioner Rashaan Davis.  He went on to say, “Abby has spent a lifetime around athletics and activities, she has worked as a sports broadcaster for ESPN, and in many of her other roles, she understands the level of excellence that our hall of fame represents. I am excited to have her host this event, and I look forward to her helping our association in other ways as well. One of the highlights of the evening will be Abby introducing another Colorado girls basketball great, Ann (Strother) Abromaitis, into the Hall of Fame, along with our amazing list of talented coaches and advisers.”

This year’s Hall of Fame class includes:

  • Sally Moos                   Volleyball                    Cherry Creek
  • James Hartman, Jr.     Football                       Mitchell
  • Tim Ottmann               Wrestling                    Ponderosa

  • George Rykovich         Football                       Manitou Springs
  • Rene Aafedt                Volleyball                    Valley
  • Ann Abromaitis           Basketball                   Highlands Ranch

Associate Commissioner Bethany Brookens stated, “The CHSAA Hall of Fame is an opportunity to recognize the very best within our association. For those in attendance, you will have an opportunity to meet current hall of fame members, the incoming class, and with Abby and others, you’ll meet future CHSAA Hall of Fame inductees. This is about us all coming together and celebrating the greatness of CHSAA’s past, present, and future.”
