AURORA – The 5A girls soccer state championship match between 10th-seeded ThunderRidge and the 17th-seeded Rock Canyon is set for Thursday night at the DICK’S Sporting Goods Park.
ThunderRidge used a 2-0 shutout win over No. 14 Fairview in the semifinals to advance to the title game. ThunderRidge opened the tournament with a 2-1 win over No. 23 Fort Collins in the first round before playing No. 7 Mountain Vista to a scoreless draw in the second round. Following a shootout win over Mountain Vista, ThunderRidge knocked off No. 2 Broomfield, 1-0, in the quartefinal round.
Rock Canyon also won a shootout to advance to the title game, as it had tied No. 4 Heritage in the semifinals. Rock Canyon escaped No. 16 Columbine, 3-2, in the first round, and then knocked out top-seeded Fossil Ridge by the same score. A 4-1 win over No. 9 Pine Creek in the quarterfinals advanced ThunderRidge to the semifinal round.
