Cherry Creek boys soccer handles Columbine at LMF

LAKEWOOD — Cherry Creek’s boys soccer team improved to 2-0 on the season Wednesday night with a 5-1 victory over Columbine.

The Bruins pulled away in the second half at Lakewood Memorial Field. Cherry Creek found the back of the net four times in the final 30 minutes. Juniors Cole Wearner, Noah Eisenberg, Dex Rhody and Cole Brown all scored in the second half to give the Bruins the 4-goal victory.

Columbine (0-1 record) hung tough in the opening half. Cherry Creek took a 1-0 lead in the 23rd minute on a goal by senior Amro Ahmed.

However, the Rebels answered with junior Brayden Quintana kicking in a rebound after the initial direct free-kick by senior Ian Copeland in the 29th minute.

Columbine sophomore goalie Landon Bedoy kept it a 1-1 game going into halftime when he made a diving save on a penalty kick from Ahmed in the 39th minute.

The Rebels are back in action Friday, Aug. 25, at Lakewood Memorial Field against Golden (1-1). The Demons edged Silver Creek 2-1 on Wednesday night at the North Area Athletic Complex.

Cherry Creek is scheduled to host Fairview on Saturday, Aug. 26.
