Girls Cross Country: Regionals Round Up, Day 2

AURORA – The final six regional champions were crowned across three classifications at today’s cross country regional championships throughout the state. Banning Lewis Preparatory School, Centauri and Lake County claimed titles in Class 2A today, while Alamosa and Holy Family were crowned champions in Class 3A. Boulder captured the lone Class 5A regional title handed out today.

2A Region 2

COLORADO SPRINGS – The Vanguard School’s Nadhia Campos won the individual title at the 2A Region 2 Cross Country Championships, while Banning Lewis Preparatory School placed three finishers in the top six to claim the team title. 

Campos finished in 18:27.23, and a pair of teammates from Banning Lewis Prep crossed next; Alexis Gonzalez in 19:42.68 and Olivia Bell in 20:30.27. Fountain Valley School of Excellence took fourth place, as Ruby Riecken crossed in 20:33.08, and Denver Christian’s Teagan Fuller was fifth in 21:18.28. 

Baning Lewis Prep had a third runner finish top-six as Emelia Falcon completed the course in sixth with a time of 21:32.32. She was followed by Golden View Classical Academy’s Molly Wilkinson (21:45.60, seventh), Colorado Springs Christian’s Jenea Leisman (21:49.32, eighth), Wray’s Addison Jones (21:50.64, ninth) and The Vanguard School’s Isabel Perez (21:52.90, 10th).

With 27 points, Banning Lewis Prep took the team title. It was followed by Denver Christian in second with 32 points, The Vanguard School in third with 61 points, Golden View in fourth with 78 points and Peyton in fifth with 91 points. 

2A Region 3

BUENA VISTA – Centauri had a stellar showing at the 2A Region 3 Cross Country Championship at the Buena Vista High School Track. They finished first as a team, with 11 points, thanks to individual champion Bailey Graber (22:33), Erica Miller (23:08, placing third), McKenzie Torres (23:13, placing fourth) and Hannah Guymon (23:35, placing ninth) all finishing among the top 10 individuals.
 
Swallows Charter Academy finished in third among the teams, with 54 points, and was led by Kaitlyn Pearson, who finished eighth among the individuals (23:30.9). Narrowly beating Pearson for seventh place was Sargent’s Kayleeann Martinez (23:30.3), who joined teammate Madeline Mitchell (23:22, placing sixth) in the top 10.
 
Rye (80 points, finishing fifth), Thomas MacLaren (78 points, finishing fourth) and Rocky Ford (53 points, finishing second) also placed in among top five teams. Of those three, only Thomas MacLaren had a top-10 individual, with Piper Shannon finishing 10th (23:41).
 
Del Norte’s Frannie Edelen (22:34, placing second) and Buena Vista’s Maya Lyle (23:16, placing fifth) also finished in the top 10.

2A Region 4

DOLORES – The Lake County Girls had a tremendous showing at the 2A Region 4 Cross Country Championship at Boggy Draw Trails, capturing four top-10 finishes, including individual champion Keira King (21:36) and placing first among the teams (15 points).
 
Lake County’s Ella Bullock (21:43, finishing second), Indigo Olsen (22:14, placing fifth) and Clara Kirr (22:22, placing seventh) also finished in the top 10. Caprock Academy (51 points, placing second) was the only other program with multiple top-10 finishers, thanks to Grace Grossman (21:59, placing third) and Taylor Skinner (22:56, placing 10th).
 
The other top 10 individual racers were Rangely’s Taya Wren (22:05, placing fourth), Telluride’s Austin Cook (22:17, placing sixth), North Fork’s Saskia Marlin (22:43, placing eighth) and Cedaredge’s Madelyn Lindsey (22:49, placing ninth.
 
Rounding the top five teams was Telluride (85 points, placing third), Soroco (117, placing fourth), and Dolores (129, placing fifth).

3A Region 2

COLORADO SPRINGS – Alamosa (45 points, finishing first among teams) had a tremendous performance at the 3A Region 2 Cross Country Championship at Monument Valley Park, earning the team championship (45 points) and recording three top-10 finishes, thanks to individual champion Elizabeth McQuitty (18:52), Sarah DeLaCerda (19:28, finishing third) and Madeline Castillo (19:52, finishing fifth).
 
Gunnison (65 points, finishing third) and Woodland Park (107 points, finishing fourth) also had multiple top-10 finishers. Gunnison was represented in the top 10 by Madelyn Stice (19:14, finishing second), Jemma Petrie (20:01, finishing sixth) and Catalina Schwab (20:57, finishing 10th). Woodland Park’s top 10 individuals were Stella Schroeder (20:09, finishing seventh) and Nora Scicluna (20:17, finishing eighth).
 
The other top 10 individual racers were Elisa Karr (19:38, finishing fourth), who represented fifth-place Manitou Springs (114 points) and Sam Hunt (20:26, finishing ninth), who represented second-place Salida (64 points).

3A Region 3

NORTHGLENN – Holy Family placed five runners in the top eight to capture the 3A Region 3 Cross Country Championship at Northwest Open Space Friday, while Stargate’s Allison Pippert led all runners across the line to claim the individual title.
 
Pippert crossed in 18:18 and was followed by Holy Family’s Anabella Descalzo (19:07) and MacKenzie McIntosh (19:57) in second and third, respectively. Peak to Peak’s Annaka Rudolph led another pair of Holy Family runners across the line, as she captured fourth in 20:08. Holy Family’s Katherine Ryan was fifth in 20:12 and teammate Emmy Stoll was sixth in 20:14.
 
Two seconds later, Peak to Peak’s Abbey Brende (20:16) crossed the line in seventh, and she was followed one second later by Holy Family’s Liberty Ley (20:17, eighth). Jefferson Academy’s Maya Ross took ninth in 20:23 and Prospect Ridge’s Emily Jones rounded out the top 10 with a time of 20:26.
 
Holy Family took the team title with a score of 24. Peak to Peak claimed second with 57 points, while Jefferson Academy checked in third at 80 points. Prospect Ridge was fourth with 94 points and Stargate took fifth with 134 points.

5A Region 3

NORTHGLENN – Denver East’s Rosie Mucharsky captured the 5A Region 3 Cross Country individual title Friday at the Northwest Open Space, while Boulder took the team title. 

Mucharsky completed the course in 18:18, while Boulder took the next three finishers, as Kiki Vaughn (18:35), Malia Chipouras (19:02) and Anika Leovy (19:02) finished second, third and fourth, respectively. Monarch’s Sofie Donker rounded out the top five with a time of 19:11.

In sixth place was Erie’s Sabina Stroia (19:12) and seventh went to Boulder’s Rachel Tilton (19:13). Denver East’s Grace Todd finished in eighth with a time of 19:24, while Broomfield’s Kasey Crispin (19:26) and Vilate Carwin (19:29) rounded out teh top-10 finishers.

With 35 points, Boulder took the team title and was followed by Denver East in second with 64 points. Fairview claimed third with 84 points, Broomfield fourth (113 points) and Monarch fifth (117).
