Field Hockey: Upsets Define Quarterfinals

AURORA – The quarterfinals of the Colorado High School Activities Association’s 2023 Field Hockey State Championship Tournament were defined by upsets.

No. 3 Regis Jesuit lost their match to No. 6 Denver East and, as a result, will miss the state championship game for the first time since 2017. No. 4 Kent Denver, who owns the most state titles in field hockey (10), was also upset, as No. 5 seed St. Mary’s Academy won an overtime shootout, 2-0, to advance.

The winners will both advance to the semifinals, with teams competing Oct. 30 at Denver’s All-City Stadium. Semifinal tickets will be available for purchase. Start times for all games can be found on the bracket.

The first semifinal game will pit No. 1 Colorado Academy against St. Mary’s Academy at 4 pm. Colorado Academy advanced to the semifinal round by defeating No. 9 Palmer Ridge, 5-0, in the quarterfinal round.

The second semifinal will feature No. 2 Cherry Creek and No. 6 Denver East. Cherry Creek blanked No. 7 seed Arapahoe 3-0 to reach the semifinals.

The winners of the two semifinals will advance to the state championship game, which will be played at 6 p.m. on Nov. 1 at All-City Stadium in Denver. Tickets can be found here, once made available.
