AURORA – Broomfield and Niwot each secured their spots at the state championships by winning the Arvada West Regional Gymnastics Championship Saturday at Arvada West High School. Broomfield topped the 5A leaderboard with a team score of 179.575, while Niwot captured the 4A title with a team score of 176.150.

Pomona placed four Panthers in the top six of the individual all-around, but Broomfield edged Pomona out of first to claim the 5A title at the Arvada West Regional Championships, 179.575-177.400.
Arvada West’s Layla Petz claimed the all-around title with a score of 37.875, while Broomfield’s Mia Ritchie finished runner-up, with a score of 37.250. They were followed by three Panthers; Averie Hull (36.900), Addy Brodie (36.300), JuJu Hickam (35.375) and Lauren Murphy (34.625).
Petz also won the bars, putting together a score of 9.725, while Broomfield’s Avery Kang finished second at 9.5 and teammate Ritchie was third at 9.1. With a score of 8.925, Hull checked in fourth and Broomfield’s Kiera La took fifth with a score of 8.85.
On vault, Hull took first with a score of 9.525. Petz was runner-up with a score of 9.45 and Hickam was third at 9.425. In fourth place was Broomfield’s Kaia Bachrach (9.35) and in fifth was teammate Ritchie (9.2).
Ritchie claimed first on the beam with a 9.4, while Hull was second (9.35) and Petz was third (9.25). Bachrach checked in fourth with a score of 9.125 and Arvada West’s Kira Tormina took fifth with a 9.0.
Pomona’s Brodie took first on floor, scoring 9.6 points. In second was Ritchie (9.55), while Petz took third (9.45). Heritage’s Abby Nickols (9.25) and Reese Bryant (9.15) were fourth and fifth, respectively.
Among the teams, Broomfield and Pomona finished first and second, respectively. Arvada West was close behind, taking third with 176.100 points, and Heritage was fourth with 170.100 points. Denver East checked in fifth with 148.650 points.
4A RECAP
Niwot’s Maeve Flentie placed in the top-five of all four exercises and put together a score of 38.825 to win the all-around title and lead the Cougars to the Arvada West Regional Championship.
Niwot claimed the team title with a score of 176.150, while Roosevelt was close behind (173.300). Green Mountain took third with a score of 161.900 and Alamosa was fourth with a score of 159.700.
Throughout the day, there was a different winner at every event, as Niwot’s Kylee Schlepp won the vault (9.45), Niwot’s Heidi Herbert captured first on the bars (8.825), Niwot’s Lilly O’Neill won beam (9.225) and Roosevelt High’s Taegan Olson was first on floor (9.375).
Roosevelt actually dominated the floor, sweeping the top four spots with Alea Piddington finishing second with a score of 9.275, Rylie Kreiger taking third with a score of 9.225 and Makaylee Meyer earning fourth (9.175). Niwot’s Flentie rounded out the top five with a score of 9.075.
Roosevelt’s Paige Garguilo (9.325) and Piddington (9.15) finished second and third, respectively, to Schlepp on vault, while Flentie took fourth with a 9.00 and Roosevelt’s Braelyn Baily was ffith with an 8.95.
Herbert was one of four Cougars to finish in the top six on bars, as Niwot’s Isabelle Foster (8.75, third), Flentie (8.675, 4th), Claire Vardas (8.5, 6th) all finished behind Roosevelt’s Piddington (8.8, 2nd) and Adrianna Rios (8.775, 3rd).
On beam, Niwot’s O’Neill (9.225), Flentie (9.075) and Vardas (9.0) swept the top three spots, while Alamosa’s Holly McDaniel was fourth with as core of 8.775 and Fort Morgan’s Brooklynn Roth was fifth with a score of 8.775.
Flentie’s steady performance helped her top the all-around leaderboard, while Piddington took second with a score of 35.325. O’Neill checked in third with a score of 34.750, Roth was fourth at 34.450 and Herbert rounded out the top-five with a score of 34.325.
