5A Girls Golf State Championship: First Round Recap

Day 2 Pairings

BROOMFIELD – With the first round of the Colorado High School Activities Association’s 2024 5A Girls Golf State Championship, at the Broadlands Golf Course in Broomfield in the books, Valor Christian ranks first among the teams (7-over 223), while Rock Canyon junior Ashleigh Wilson has the individual lead and is the lone golfer under par after the first day (1-under 71).
 
Valor Christian has two golfers nipping at Wilson’s heels, with junior Brenna Higgins shooting an even 72 on the first day to place second among the individuals, and freshman Ella Scott scoring 1-over 73 to place third.

The individual leaderboard is remarkably tight through one day of competition, as the gap between first and ninth-place is just six strokes.

Right after the two Valor Christian golfers, there is a three-way tie for fourth place at 2-over 74 between Ralson Valley sophomore Addison Hines, Legend freshman Maddie Makino and Cherry Creek junior Caitlyn Chin. Rounding out the top-10 individuals, Regis Jesuit junior Audrey Whitmore (3-over 75) and Fossil Ridge junior Ellie Barry (4-over 76) finished the day in seventh and eighth place, respectively, followed by a three-way tie for ninth place. Fairview senior Ava Hickey, Rock Canyon sophomore Ashley Chang and Brighton junior Raleigh Puzio all tied in ninth at 5-over 77.

Behind the Eagles, the other top five teams of the day featured Rock Canyon (18-over 234) in second place, Cherry Creek (19-over 235) in third place, Fossil Ridge (21-over 237) in fourth place and Mountain Vista (29-over 245) in fifth place.
 
The final round of the two-round championship will be played on Tuesday. The top-two team finishers will earn a trophy with the top-10 individual finishers being rewarded with a medal.
