AURORA – The Colorado High School Activities Association would like to congratulate its membership for another successful year. Throughout 2023-24, CHSAA crowned 114 team champions across its sports and activities, with 66 different schools claiming at least one title and 23 schools winning multiple championships.
Among this year’s state champions, there were 28 individual programs that won state titles in a given activity for the first time ever, including Arrupe Jesuit and Golden View Classical Academy, which both captured the first state championships in school history across any sport. Arrupe Jesuit, a first year spirit program, won the 2A/3A gameday cheer championship and Golden View Classical Academy won the 2A boys cross country title.
Meanwhile, Timnath’s 2A girls track and field championship marked the school’s first state title, of any kind, in over 50 years, and its first in girls track and field, while Mancos’ 8-man football team won the Bluejays their second state championship ever, across any activity, and their first since 1998.
Additional highlights throughout the year include:
- All three boys golf state championships going to first time champions, with Rock Canyon (5A), Evergreen (4A), and Resurrection Christian (3A) all securing hardware.
- Cherry Creek winning its ninth state title in baseball to send legendary head coach Marc Johnson into retirement holding a CHSAA record 871 wins.
- Colorado Governor Jared Polis attending this year’s spring esports state championships to show his support for CHSAA’s newest activity.
- Colorado Academy winning its ninth-straight state title in girls lacrosse, the longest win streak for the sport in Colorado history. It was also the Mustangs’ 10th girls lacrosse title overall, tying them with Cherry Creek for most total girls lacrosse titles in state history.
- Eaton winning its fourth-straight baseball state championship, which is tied for the third-longest streak for the sport in Colorado history.
- Football hosting championship games in new locations, with this being the first year the 5A and 4A state championship games were played at Canvas Stadium in Fort Collins. The 2A championship game also moved to Colorado Mesa’s Stoker Field, due to a weather emergency.
- Limon allowing just 27 points in the boys basketball state championship final, marking the best defensive performance in a Colorado boys basketball state championship game since 1950.
- Merino winning its fourth-straight girls volleyball title and 14th overall. The Rams are now one girls volleyball state championship away from tying Platte Valley for most in state history.
- Niwot winning its sixth-straight girls cross country championship, the third-longest streak win streak for the sport in Colorado history, and its fifth-straight girls track and field championship, tied for the second-longest streak for the sport in Colorado history.
- Pomona winning its 11th boys wrestling state championship, the most of any 5A program, and becoming the first school other than Chatfield to win a girls wrestling state championship.
- Roosevelt winning its second-straight girls basketball state championship over Northfield by a score of 69-63, which was the highest scoring girls basketball CHSAA championship final (132 combined points) in two decades (Lamar and Platte Valley combined for 162 in 2004).
- Summit winning its third-straight boys skiing state championship, the second-longest win streak in state history for boys skiing.
- The Classical Academy winning its 12th girls track and field title, which broke a tie with Mullen to give the Titans the most girls track and field state championships in Colorado history.
- Valor Christian defeating Fort Collins 4-0 in the Rocket League championship game becomes the first Rocket League championship game shutout in CHSAA history, and the largest Rocket League championship game margin of victory (four).
- Valor Christian defeating Arapahoe 22-6 in the state championship game set two CHSAA state championship game records for boys lacrosse — most goals scored by single team (22) and largest margin of victory (16).
- Windsor becoming the first unified bowling team outside of Pueblo to win the state championship, and setting the state record for the highest total pinfall (651) in a state championship.
