Second-Annual Women in Leadership Conference Set for Wednesday

AURORA – The Colorado High School Activities Association (CHSAA) will host its second-annual Women in Leadership Conference on Wednesday at the Evergreen Lake House.

The day – designed to bring together a community of women in education-based activities and athletics – will start with check-in, breakfast and a meditation session before officially welcoming participants at 8:30 a.m. The first panel will be on Mental Health and Balance, and will feature Mullen’s Melynda Brown, the NFHS’ Dana Pappas, Jefferson County’s Dawn Roberts, Rampart’s Meghan Sanders and senator Nancy Todd.

The second panel will feature two officials: Nici Akey and Delia Febres Butler, two coaches: Jessika Caldwell and LaVerne Houston, and Assistant Principal Christine Jones speaking about Intimindation, Confidence and Empowerment. Following a short networking break, Keynote Speaker Karyn Ruth White will take the floor.

Lunch and a movement break will break up the day before the final panel – titled Breaking Into a Male World and featuring lobbyist Joannie Green-Turner, wrestling official Nadine Ihde-Johnston, media icon Marcia Neville and the NFHS’ Sandy Searcy – will take the floor.

20635Following a closing message and sharing of takeaways, attendees are invited to hang out and continue networking on the lake. Stand up paddleboards, kayaks and more will be available for rent at the Boat House.

CHSAA would like to thank its moderators – Natalie Burton, Desiree Chase and Erika James-Bouwmeester – all of the participants, and especially Colorado Coaches of Girls Sports for their donation to the event and for its support of women and coaches across the state.
