Fall 2024 Postseason Information

AURORA – The Colorado High School Activities Association will crown 58 teams as state champions across 14 sports and activities this fall.

The first team champions will be awarded on Tuesday, Oct. 8 in boys golf, with fall championships running through Saturday, Dec. 14, when the spirit state champions are crowned.

Information on how teams qualify for the postseason, round-by-round schedules and championship finals site information for each individual sport and championship can be accessed below.

2A, 3A, 4A and 5A Boys and Girls Championships

Regional Championships

All teams will qualify for a regional championship, with each classification hosting five regionals – with each regional featuring a boys and girls race – at various sites across Colorado. The top four teams and all athletes that place in the top 15 of each of the regionals will advance to the state championships.

Field Hockey

Unclassified State Championship

Note: This is the first year of there being a Championship and Consolation bracket.

An initial 16-team postseason bracket will be seeded with the first-round games determining competition in the eight-team, single-elimination championship bracket and consolation bracket.

First Round Games

The winners of the eight first round games of the initial bracket will advance to the championship bracket, whereas the losers will advance to the consolation bracket.

The semifinals and finals of both the championship and consolation brackets will be hosted at DPS All-City Stadium on Monday, Nov. 4 through Wednesday, Nov. 6. All games are at 5 and 7 p.m.

Flag Football

4A and 5A State Championship

Note: This is the first year that a state championship will be awarded in flag football.

A 20-team single elimination bracket will be released for both classifications. For the 4A bracket, four automatic qualifiers will be determined at the end of regular season play with the remaining 16 teams being at-large qualifiers determined by the CHSAA Selection & Seeding Index. In 5A, there will be five automatic qualifiers and 15 at-large qualifiers.

First Round Games

The top 12 seeds will receive a first round bye, with the remaining four first round games being played at the site of the higher seeded team.

  • Tuesday and Wednesday, Oct. 22-23.

Second and Quarterfinal Round Games

All second and quarterfinal round games will be played at neutral sites on Saturday, Oct. 26. The 4A games will be played at the North Area Athletic Complex (NAAC) Soccer Field and Football Field, while the 5A games will be played at Jeffco Stadium and Trailblazer Stadium.

  • Second round games will be played at 9 a.m., 10:45 a.m., 12:30 p.m., and 2:15 p.m.
  • Winning teams will advance to the quarterfinal round, with those games at 4:15 p.m. and 6:15 p.m.

Semifinals and Championship Games

The semifinals will be played on Saturday, Nov. 2 at Jeffco Stadium and Trailblazer Stadium.

Note: This is the first year with a 2A classification for boys golf.

Regional Championships

> All teams will qualify for a regional championship, with each classification hosting four regionals at various sites across the state. The top two teams and 13 individuals not on a team from each of the regionals will advance to the state championship.

State Championships

There will be 84 state qualifiers for each classification. The tournament will be 36 holes, stroke play with a team championship component. Golfers will play in threesomes and will be spaced at nine-minute intervals from both Tee No. 1 and Tee No. 10. The first groups will start between 8 and 9:30 a.m., depending upon course. Pairings and tee times will be announced prior to the start of each round.

Regional Championships

Teams and individuals qualify for one of three regional championships, with each regional featuring both 4A and 5A team and individual competition at the same site.

State Championships

Nine teams will advance to the state championships in 4A, with the top team score from each region automatically advancing, in addition to the next six-best team scores regardless of region. In 5A, 10 teams will qualify for the state championship, with the top team score from each region automatically advancing, in addition to the next seven-best team scores regardless of region.

For individuals, 18 gymnasts will qualify for the state championships in 4A, and 12 will qualify in 5A for each individual event. The top three individuals not on a state qualifying team at each of the regionals will qualify for state in 4A, in addition to the next nine individuals on each event regardless on region. For 5A, the top two individuals at each region and the next six individuals regardless of region will qualify for state.

A 24-team single elimination bracket will be released for 2A, while the 3A, 4A and 5A tournaments will be a 32-team single elimination bracket. There will be nine automatic qualifiers in the 2A, 4A and 5A brackets, while 10 teams will automatically qualify for the 3A bracket. The remaining teams will be determined by using the CHSAA Selection & Seeding Index.

2A Tournament

Top eight seeds host the first and second round with the higher seeded team hosting the quarterfinal round. Semifinal and championship games will be at a neutral site.

Round of 32 Tournaments

A Round of 32 Tournament will be played to determine the 16 state qualifiers. Each classification will have eight sites hosting Round of 32 Tournament games with four teams at each site. The winners and runners-up of each Round of 32 site will automatically advance to the state championships to make up the 16-team single-elimination state bracket. All league champions will automatically qualify for the Round of 32 bracket, with the remaining teams being determined by using the CHSAA Selection & Seeding Index.

The 3A Round of 32 will be a single elimination bracket to determine the two state qualifiers.

  • Three games will be played on Saturday, Oct. 19
  • Game times10 a.m., 12:15 p.m. and 2:30 p.m.

In 4A and 5A, a modified double-elimination bracket will determine the two state qualifiers.

  • Five games will be played over one or two days on Friday, Oct. 18 and/or Saturday, Oct. 19.
  • For two-day tournaments, there will be three games on Day 1 and two games on Day 2.

The two-day tournament will be held at Aurora Sports Park with first round and quarterfinal games on Friday and semifinal and championship games on Saturday.

Unified Bowling

Unclassified State Championship

Note: Competition consists of a three-player co-ed/modified Baker Game, which is a method of scoring that places emphasis on the team effort rather than the accomplishments of the individual players. Team members will rotate between the three players with each player rolling the ball once. Regardless of spare or strike, the next participant will roll the next ball. Scoring is based on total pinfall over a series of games.

Regional Championships

All teams will qualify for one of 10 regional championships. The top three teams from each region will advance to the state championships.

Regional Championships

There will be 12 Regional Championships hosted in all five classifications. All regionals (2A-5A) will have three teams and a total of three matches will be played, while 1A will have two teams, so only one match is needed. The winners of all 12 regionals in each classification will automatically advance to the State Championships.

The three-day tournament will be played at the Denver Coliseum. The 12 teams in each classification will be seeded onto a bracket with the top-four teams earning a first-round bye. Each bracket will be a double elimination bracket through the semifinals and then single elimination through the semifinals and finals.
