4A Boys Golf Region 2: Highlands Ranch Earns Team and Individual Victories

DENVER – Highlands Ranch swept the Colorado High School Activities Association’s 4A boys golf region 2 regional, as the Falcons shot 18-over 234 to claim the team championship, and junior Billy Verstraate shot 4-under 68 to nab the individual crown.

Finishing as the runner-up team, just behind Highlands Ranch, was Dakota Ridge, after the Eagles shot 20-over 236 on the day.

Although Dakota Ridge fell just short of the team victory, the program still placed three golfers among the top-10 individuals, with sophomore Jax Orr (6-over 78) placing second, and seniors Nick Sullivan and Cohan Goudge tying for fifth (7-over 79).

With two golfers a piece, Pueblo West and Niwot had the next-most individual golfers finish inside the top 10. The Cyclones were represented in the top 10 by Parker Shaw (6-over 78) who tied for second place, and Jacob Valdez (8-over 80), who tied for ninth. Niwot’s Jagger Kilpatrick (6-over 78) also tied for second, while teammate Drew Stapp (7-over 79) was another member of the four-way tie at fifth place.

The final member of that four-way tie was Ponderosa junior Zachary Senior. George Washington junior Soren Goldberg Butler (8-over 80) closed out the top 10, tying Pueblo West’s Valdez for ninth place.

CHSAA’s 2024 4A Boys Golf State Championship will be played at Tiara Rado Golf Course in Redlands, on Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 7 and 8.
