Boys Tennis: Dual Team State Championship Today

AURORA – The championship matches for the Boys Tennis Dual Team State Championships have been set, as No. 1 Regis Jesuit will face No. 2 Cherry Creek in the 5A championship and No. 1 Kent Denver will face No. 2 Colorado Academy in the 4A championship at Denver Tennis Park next Tuesday, Oct. 22.

The 5A match will begin at 9:45 a.m., followed by the 4A finals at 12:45 p.m. Both match ups will be rematches of last year’s finals, as Cherry Creek defeated Regis Jesuit, 4-1, and Kent Denver knocked off Colorado Academy, 4-0.

This marks the third year of the Boys Tennis Dual Team State Championships, as the tournament structure changed for the 2022 season. Previously, team points were calculated at the Boys Tennis Individual State Championships to determine the team state champion.

In 5A, Regis Jesuit – last year’s runners up – will look to win its first-ever dual team state championship and add to its five boys tennis state titles in program history. The Raiders advanced to the title match after sweeping No. 5 Fossil Ridge, 7-0, in the semifinals. Regis Jesuit’s most recent boys tennis state championship came in 2019 when it beat Cherry Creek in back-to-back years (2018 and 2019).

Cherry Creek, which has won a state-record 46 state championships in boys tennis, advanced to the state championship match after knocking off No. 3 Valor Christian, 5-2. The Bruins have captured both of the dual team state titles so far and will be looking for a fifth-straight title in boys tennis.

This will mark the second-straight year that Cherry Creek and Regis Jesuit have met in the title match, as Creek defeated Valor Christian, 5-2, in 2022 for its first dual team title and then knocked off Regis Jesuit, 4-1, last year.

In 4A, Kent Denver – winners of both of the two previous dual team tournaments – will be making its third-straight appearance in the dual team tournament. The Sun Devils will be looking for a fourth-straight boys tennis state championship, and their 14th overall, after sweeping No. 4 Evergreen, 7-0, in the semifinals.

Colorado Academy, the runners up from a year ago, return to the championship match after defeating No. 3 D’Evelyn, 6-1, in the semifinals. The Mustangs are looking for their second-ever boys tennis state championship, as they captured their lone state title in 2018.

This will be the second-straight year Kent Denver and Colorado Academy have met in the finals of the dual team tournament, with Kent Denver earning the 4-0 victory a year ago.
