2A Football: Three Upsets in First Round Action

AURORA – No. 9 Wellington, No. 10 Sterling and No. 13 Eaton all survived the first-round of the 2A football playoffs, despite being the lower seeded team. With the wins, all three teams, in addition to No. 1 Strasburg, No. 2 Basalt, No. 3 The Classical Academy, No. 5 Lamar and No. 6 Berthoud, will advance to the quarterfinal round.

Wellington got past No. 8 Delta, 27-23, while Sterling knocked off No. 7 Woodland Park, 33-31, and Eaton posted the biggest upset with a 21-13 win over No. 4 Elizabeth.
 


No. 1 Strasburg shutout No. 16 Denver West, 41-0, and will advance to face No. 9 Wellington, which upset No. 8 Delta, 27-23, in the first round.

No. 2 Basalt knocked off No. 15 The Academy, 42-14, and will next face No. 10 Sterling after it upset No. 7 Woodland Park, 33-31.

No. 3 The Classical Academy will meet No. 6 Berthoud in the quaterfinal round, as TCA beat No. 14 Pagosa Springs, 49-7, and Berthoud handed No. 11 Montezuma-Cortez a 42-12 loss.

No. 5 Lamar edged No. 12 Alamosa, 14-7, to advance, while No. 13 Eaton upset No. 4 Elizabeth, 21-13 to set up a meeting between Lamar and Eaton in the quaterfinal round.
