AURORA – No. 11 Sedgwick County posted the first upset of the 8-man football playoffs, shutting out No. 6 West Grand, 24-0, in the first round.
No. 1 Haxtun, No. 2 McClave, No. 3 Akron, No. 4 Mancos, No. 5 Byers, No. 7 Simla and No. 8 Sanford also advanced to the quarterfinal round.
No. 1 Haxtun shutout No. 16 Hoehne to move on to the quarterfinals where it will face No. 8 Sanford, as Sanford got past No. 9 Springfield, 20-18.
No. 2 McClave knocked off No. 15 Dayspring Christian, 20-8, and No. 7 Simla defeated No. 10 Dove Creek, 43-16, to set up a quarterfinal round matchup between McClave and Simla.
No. 3 Akron got past No. 14 Clear Creek, 46-34 and will next take on No. 11 Sedgwick County, which upset No. 6 West Grand, 24-0.
No. 4 Mancos and No. 5 Byers will be the final quarterfinal round matchup, as Mancos defeated No. 13 Plateau Valley, 48-6, and Byers knocked off No. 12 Merino, 44-14.
