AURORA – The quarterfinalists for Rocket League, which will all advance to the in-person final day of the Colorado High School Activities Association’s 2024 Esports Fall State Championships, have been determined.
The first round of play took place on Dec. 2-5, with the eight winners advancing to the in-person final at Localhost in Lakewood on Tuesday, Dec. 10.
There were two upsets in the first round, with No. 11 Chatfield Rocket League (Chatfield) getting past No. 6 MVHS Octane Eagles (Mountain Vista), 4-0, and No. 15 Creek Rocket League (Cherry Creek) knocking off the No. 2 seeded Cherokee Trail Varsity (Cherokee Trail), 4-3.
Top-seeded Bear Creek Gold Rocket League defeated No. 16 The Fine Lads (Highland) 4-0 while No. 3 EA ESports Rocket League (Denver East) swept No. 14 Rocket Wolves – Black (Grandview), 4-0. No. 4 Valor RL Alpha Team (Valor Christian) topped Faking Falcons (Highlands Ranch) 4-0, and and No. 5 RMHS Lobos Varsity (Rocky Mountain) knocked off No. 12 Gladiator RL (GOAL), 4-0. No. 7 Columbia Gladiators (Widefield) advanced after defeating No. 10 Chatfield Rocket League JV (Chatfield), 4-1, and No. 8 RAMS Rocket League (Green Mountain) used a 4-1 win over No. 9 CHS RL Varsity (Centaurus) to move on to the in-person final.
The quarterfinal round will feature No. 1 Bear Creek Gold Rocket League vs. No. 8 RAMS Rocket League, No. 3 EA ESports Rocket League vs. No. 11 Chatfield Rocket League, No. 4 Valor RL Alpha Team vs. No. 5 RMHS Lobos Varsity and No. 7 Columbia Gladiators against No. 15 Creek Rocket League.
Quarterfinal round play in Rocket League will begin at 9 a.m., followed by the semifinals at 10 a.m. and the finals at 11 a.m. A trophy presentation will take place immediately after the championship round.
