Ice Hockey: First Round of State Championships Underway

AURORA – The first round of the 2025 CHSAA Ice Hockey State Championships are underway, with four first-round games in the two – 4A and 5A – brackets being completed. The remaining two games will be played Saturday. 

In 4A, No. 8 Durango rallied for a third-period lead, gave up the tying goal in the closing seconds of regulation, then won 4-3 in overtime against No. 9 Kent Denver to advance to the quarterfinals, where it will face No. 1 Glenwood Springs on Tuesday at the Lewis Ice Rink at 7:45 p.m. 

No. 7 Colorado Academy also got past No. 10 Colorado Springs District 11, 5-1, and will next face No. 2 Steamboat Springs. That quarterfinal game is scheduled for Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. at Howelsen Ice Complex. 

The other two quarterfinal games feature No. 3 Pine Creek vs. No. 6 Standley Lake on Wednesday at 6 p.m. at the CC Ed Robson Arena, and No. 4 Summit vs. No. 5 Cheyenne Mountain on Tuesday at the Stephen C. West Ice Arena. That game is scheduled for 6 p.m. 

In 5A, No. 6 Heritage defeated No 11 Chatfield, 4-0, to move on to the quarterfinal round where No. 3 Valor Christian awaits. Also, No. 5 Regis Jesuit knocked off No. 12 Lewis-Palmer 3-1 and will next face No. 4 Cherry Creek in the quarterfinals. 

The other two first round games will be played Saturday, with No. 7 Denver East hosting No. 10 Castle View at Big Bear Ice Arena and No. 8 Mountain Vista taking on No. 9 Ralston Valley at the South Suburban Sports Complex. 

All four quarterfinal games will be played at South Suburban Sports Complex next Tuesday and Wednesday, with No. 4 Cherry Creek facing No. 5 Regis Jesuit in the first game at 5 p.m., and then No. 1 Poudre School District taking on the winner of No. 8 Mountain Vista vs. No. 9 Ralston Valley at 7:30 p.m. On Wednesday, No. 3 Valor Christian will meet No. 6 Heritage at 5 p.m., followed by No. 2 Monarch vs. the winner of No. 7 Denver East vs. No. 10 Castle View. 

Tickets for the 5A quarterfinal games at South Suburban Sports Complex can be purchased on GoFan. One ticket is good for both games on a particular day, with an All-Day Tuesday Ticket and an All-Day Wednesday Ticket option.
