1A Baseball Districts Scheduled for This Week

AURORA – Class 1A baseball teams around the state start postseason play, with district scheduled to be completed by Saturday.

Four of the five districts will qualify their top two finishers for regional tournaments, while District 3 (which has only three teams) will qualify its district champion. The rest of the 16-team regional field will be determined by the RPI/MaxPreps rankings.

The top four district champions in the RPI/MaxPreps rankings will host regional tournament, with the fifth-ranked district champion earning the No. 5 seed. The remaining teams will be seeded by the rankings, with first-round matchups against district opponents being avoided.

The regionals, which start May 10, serve as the first two rounds of the 16-team state tournament. the state championship game is scheduled for May 15.

Teams Competing: Dove Creek, La Veta, Nucla, Sargent.

District 2

Date: Championship, Saturday, May 3
Location: Evangel Christian
Teams Competing: Cotopaxi, Cripple Creek, Custer County, Elbert, Evangel, Kiowa, Miami-Yoder, Simla.

District 3

Date: Friday, May 2
Location: Flatirons Academy
Teams Competing: Denver Jewish Day, Flatirons Academy, Rocky Mountain Lutheran.

District 4

Date: Tuesday, April 29 and Saturday, May 3
Location: Tuesday at higher seeds; semifinals and championship at Las Animas
Teams Competing: Baca County, Cheyenne Wells, Eads, Holly, Manzanola, McClave, Stratton, Wiley.

District 5

Date: Wednesday, April 30 and Friday, May 2
Location: No. 1 and 2 seeds host Wednesday; Semifinals and championship at Prairie
Teams Competing: Akron, Briggsdale, Caliche, Haxtun, Merino, Otis, Peetz, Prairie, Weldon Valley.
