AURORA — The opening round of the 4A girls lacrosse state tournament began Tuesday.
In the closest game of the day, No. 17 Horizon edged No. 16 Grand Junction, 16-15 to move into a second-round matchup Thursday against No. 1 seed Evergreen.
Also Tuesday, No. 9 Durango defeated No. 24 St. Mary’s Academy, 20-4; No. 10 Mullen stopped No. 23 Liberty, 16-7; No. 11 Dakota Ridge beat No. 22 Eaglecrest, 15-9; No. 12 Cheyenne Mountain topped No. 21 Summit 17-7; No. 13 Telluride beat No. 20 Rampart 16-9; No. 15 Fruita Monument defeated No. 18 Conifer, 24-14: and No. 19 Air Academy knocked off No. 14 Holy Family 13-6;
Besides the Evergreen-Horizon game, other second-round matchups Thursday include No. 2 Green Mountain vs. No. 15 Fruita Monument; No. 3 Battle Mountain vs. No. 19 Air Academy; No. 4 Mead vs. No. 13 Telluride; No. 5 Golden vs. No. 12 Cheyenne Mountain; No. 6 Steamboat Springs vs. No. 11 Dakota Ridge; No. 7 Roaring Fork vs. No. 10 Mullen; and No. 8 Aspen vs. No. 9 Durango.
