5A Baseball: Top Seeds Grandview, Cherry Creek Emerge Unbeaten

AURORA — The opening games of CHSAA’s 5A State Baseball Tournament took place Friday.

Top seeds Grandview (No. 1) and Cherry Creek (No. 2) each won twice to advance to a semifinal matchup Saturday at 2 p.m. (Saturday’s starting times have been moved up 30 minutes due to expected incoming weather.)

Grandview defeated No. 8 Castle View 5-2 and No. 5 Broomfield 5-4, while Cherry Creek topped No. 7 Rocky Mountain 3-0 before edging No. 6 Regis Jesuit 4-3.

The double elimination tournament continues Saturday with elimination games at 9 a.m. and 11:30 a.m.

Four teams will be eliminated Saturday, and the remaining four teams will advance to play again next weekend, with games May 30 and May 31.
