  • D’Evelyn’s Lexi Reed commits to Oregon State for track and cross country

    D’Evelyn senior Lexi Reed announced on Monday night that she has committed to Oregon State to run track and cross country.

    Reed, who was third in the Class 4A girls cross country state meet a year ago, announced her decision on Twitter.

    Reed was also fourth in the 1,600-meter race at the 4A state track meet, and sixth in the 3,200.

    She’s an all-around athlete, and has played basketball for D’Evelyn. In fact, she averaged 13.2 points, 5.8 rebounds and 5.3 assists last season.

    Reed also played singles in the state tennis tournament her freshman and sophomore years for the Jaguars, but stopped last spring in order to focus on track.

    Reed will sign on the upcoming Nov. 11 national signing date.

    She is the latest member of the Class of 2016 to make her college choice.

  • Sand Creek’s Oliana Squires commits to Montana State basketball

    Sand Creek guard Oliana Squires committed to Montana State’s women’s basketball program on Monday.

    Squires, a senior, announced her decision on Twitter:

    Squires was one of three captains for the Scorpions last season as Sand Creek reached the Class 4A title game.

    She led Sand Creek in scoring (17.8 points per game), assists (4.5 per game) and steals (3.4 per game) last season. Squires, who is 5-foot-8, also averaged 4.1 rebounds per game.

    After the season, she was a first-team all-state pick in 4A.

    Squires is the latest girls basketball player from the 2016 class to announce her college choice.

  • Longmont’s Cooper Rothe commits to Wyoming football

    Cooper Rothe, a kicker and cornerback for Longmont’s football team, has committed to Wyoming.

    The senior announced his decision over Twitter on Tuesday night:

    Rothe, who is listed at 6-foot, 170 pounds, is 3-of-4 on field goal attempts this season, with a long of 55 against Pueblo East in the Trojans’ season-opener. He’s also handled punting duties this season.

    On defense, he has a team-high four interceptions, 24 total tackles, and has blocked one kick.

    Longmont is currently 5-0 and ranked No. 2 in Class 4A.

    Rothe was also offered by Air Force.

    Last season, Rothe was 4-of-8 on field goals with a long of 42 yards. He also had nine interceptions, 62 tackles and two blocked kicks on defense as the Trojans finished as runner-up in 4A.

    An all-around athlete, Rothe is also part of Longmont’s boys basketball and baseball teams, and has been a varsity member of both programs since he was a freshman.

    A centerfielder, Rothe hit .344 with two home runs and 12 RBIs for the Trojans baseball team last season. In basketball, he averaged 2.5 points per game last winter.

    Rothe is the latest member of the 2016 football class to announce his college choice.

  • Berthoud’s Kristina Cavey commits to Fresno State basketball

    Kristina Cavey, a 6-foot combo guard for Berthoud, has committed to Fresno State, according to Spartans coach Randy Earl.

    Cavey averaged 17.3 points and 3.3 assists in 15 games last season. She missed most the first month of her junior year with a knee injury, but returned on Jan. 6.

    Her return was a major boost to Berthoud, which went 4-4 without her, but 10-5 with Cavey in the lineup.

    Cavey had four games where she scored more than 20 points, including a season high of 27 in a win over Roosevelt. She scored in double figures in all but one game.

    Cavey is the 16th known in-state girls basketball player to make her college choice in the Class of 2016.

  • Green Mountain’s Wyatt Featherston commits to Western Kentucky baseball

    Wyatt Featherston, who helped lead Green Mountain baseball to last season’s Class 4A championship, committed to Western Kentucky on Monday evening.

    Featherston, an outfielder, announced his college choice on Twitter.

    The senior hit .351 with a team-high five home runs and 18 RBIs in helping the Rams repeat as champions. He also walked 22 times, giving him an on-base percentage of .505.

    Featherston is the latest commit from baseball’s Class of 2016.

  • Highlands Ranch’s Symone Starks commits to Eastern Washington basketball

    Symone Starks, who helped lead Highlands Ranch girls basketball to the Great 8 last season, has committed to Eastern Washington’s women’s basketball program.

    Starks, a senior, announced her commitment on Twitter.

    Starks averaged 11.8 points per game last season, including a season-high 23 points against Castle View. A 5-foot-4 point guard, she had 18 games scoring in double figures, and three scoring more than 20.

    That followed a sophomore season in which Starks averaged 10.1 points.

    Highlands Ranch figures to be one of the favorites in Class 5A next season. The Falcons graduated just one senior from last year’s team.

    Starks becomes the 13th known girls basketball player from Colorado to announce her college choice in the Class of 2016. That group includes Starks’ Highlands Ranch teammate, Bri Stiers, who has committed to Missouri-Kansas City.

  • Regis Jesuit’s Quin Cotton commits to Grand Canyon University baseball

    Regis Jesuit outfielder Quin Cotton has committed to play baseball at Grand Canyon University. He made the announcement Wednesday night on Twitter.

    Cotton was a steady presence for the Raiders at the plate in 2014, his junior campaign. He batted .457, hit four home runs and drove in 17 RBIs. He helped the Raiders reach the Class 5A state tournament, where they were eliminated by Grandview in the first weekend.

    He is the latest commitment for the class of 2016, which includes his teammate Travis Marr, who announced his commitment to Clemson in July.

  • Lakewood’s McKenna Bishop commits to Regis for girls basketball

    Lakewood forward McKenna Bishop has committed to play basketball at Regis University, she announced on Twitter late Monday.

    The 6-foot forward averaged 15.2 points per game with the Tigers during the 2014-15 season. She also averaged 7.7 rebounds and 3.3 steals per game, making her an all around threat to every opponent in the Class 5A Jeffco League.

    She held the Tigers all the way to the 2015 Great Eight, where they were eliminated by eventual 5A champion, Broomfield.

    She is the latest recruit from the 2016 class to announce her commitment.

  • Longmont’s Justinian Jessup commits to Boise State basketball

    Longmont star Justinian Jessup committed to Boise State’s basketball program on Saturday.

    Jessup, a senior, announced his decision on Twitter.

    Jessup, a 6-foot-5 shooting guard, averaged 17.0 points, 4.5 rebounds, 3.2 steals and 2.5 assists per game last season.

    He led Longmont to an unbeaten regular season in 2014-15, as well as an appearance in the Class 4A title game. The Trojans lost to Air Academy in the final.

    That followed a great sophomore year in which he averaged 13.6 points.

    Jessup also had offers from Colorado, Davidson, Northern Colorado and Weber State according to his Rivals profile.

    Jessup becomes the eighth in-state boys basketball player to announce a college choice from the Class of 2016.

  • Falcon’s Khiya Adams commits to CSU-Pueblo girls basketball

    Falcon 6-foot wing Khiya Adams has committed to play for CSU-Pueblo. Adams made the announcement on Twitter Saturday night and the move to was confirmed by Falcon coach Tarike Adams in an email to CHSAANow Monday morning.

    Adams led the Falcons in scoring, averaging 8.9 points per game and also shot 68 percent from the free throw line.

    Falcon made it to last year’s Class 4A state tournament, but was knocked out by Canon City in the first round.

    Adams is the latest commitment for the class of 2016.
