  • Denver East’s Ogsbury commits to Harvard for football

    Denver East senior Wesley Ogsbury committed to Harvard’s football program on Wednesday evening.

    He announced his commitment on Twitter.

    Ogsbury, who plays wide receiver and defensive back, had six interceptions, four passes defended, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery on defense.

    He also made 56 tackles, including a team-high 36 solo stops. His six picks are tied for the most in Class 5A.

    On offense, Ogsbury made 33 catches for 679 yards and six touchdowns this season. He also had 21 carries for 240 yards rushing.

    The 5-foot-11, 170-pound Ogsbury also runs track for the Angels as a sprinter and member of the school’s relay teams. His Hudl profile lists his 40-yard dash at 4.5 seconds.

    He becomes the 18th known in-state player to make a Division I commitment for football. Ogsbury is Denver East’s first Division I player since Ezekiel Bishop signed with Arizona State in 2011.

    This season, Ogsbury helped Denver East to a 7-3 record, the most wins the program has had since the 2008 season. The Angels lost to Overland in the first round of the Class 5A playoffs.

    Ogsbury also had an offer from South Dakota State, according to Scout.com.

  • Overland’s Ryan Swan commits to Air Force for basketball

    Ryan Swan, a 6-foot-7 forward at Overland, has committed to play basketball at Air Force.

    Swan, a senior, tweeted his decision on Monday evening:

    He averaged 8.1 points and 4.3 rebounds last season in helping Overland reach the Class 5A Final 4 last season.

    Swan is the 11th known boys basketball recruit to announce his college plans from Colorado’s Class of 2015. Among that group is five other Division I commits, including teammate Austin Conway, who is headed to Wyoming.

    With Swan, Conway and junior De’Ron Davis, a top national recruit, Overland is expected to challenge for the 5A title again this season. CHSAANow.com’s preseason poll will be out later this month.

    ESPN.com lists Swan as a three-star recruit and as the No. 2 recruit in Colorado during this cycle.

    Basketball recruits can sign a binding national letter of intent on Wednesday with the start of the early signing period.

  • Cherokee Trail’s Izaiah Lottie commits to New Mexico State for football

    Cherokee Trail running back Izaiah Lottie committed to New Mexico State on Sunday afternoon.

    Lottie, a 6-foot, 185-pound senior, announced his commitment on Twitter:

    Lottie had 1,135 yards and 12 touchdowns to lead the Cougars, and also had 32 tackles, a force fumble and a fumble recovery at outside linebacker.

    He is now the 17th football commit from Colorado’s 2015 class, including the 15th to a Division I FBS program. Last year, a total of 184 players committed to play college football, including 31 to FBS programs.

  • Two more baseball seniors announce college choices

    Fairview pitcher Ryan Madden and Cherry Creek third baseman Blake Goldsberry both announced their college commitments over the weekend.

    Madden, a right-hander and infielder, announced he would sign with Oklahoma — where former teammate Cam Frazier is now playing:

    Goldsberry, who also pitches, is planning to sign with Kansas.

    Both seniors can sign their National Letter of Intent when the early signing period begins on Wednesday.

    Madden helped Fairview reach Class 5A’s Final 8 last season. At 6-foot-3, 175 pounds, went 9-1 with a 2.94 ERA, including 52 strikeouts against just 12 walks. He also hit .509 with 17 RBIs and a home run.

    Goldsberry, 6-foot-4, 180 pounds, hit .355 last season with six RBIs. He was also 1-1 with a 3.89 ERA in nine innings for the Bruins, who reached the state semifinals.

    The duo bring the total number known of baseball commitments from the 2015 class thus far to 35, including 21 Division I pledges. Included in that bunch is Goldsberry’s Cherry Creek teammate Cody Wood, who is committed to New Mexico.

    On Monday, Prep Baseball Report Colorado reported that Mullen catcher Maverick Handley, a junior, committed to Stanford.

    Handley is 5-foot-10, 180 pounds. He missed his entire sophomore season due to an injury suffered during basketball season.

    Pine Creek shortstop Peter McEvoy, a senior, is also committed to Stanford.

    Additionally, Valor Christian shortstop Sean Rooney, a junior, has committed to Point Loma, a Division II program in San Diego.

  • Pine Creek’s Hammond commits to Air Force for football

    Pine Creek senior Parker Hammond has committed to Air Force to play football.

    Hammond tweeted his decision on Friday.

    Hammond, a 6-foot-4, 255-pound lineman is a force at tackle for Pine Creek, the No. 1 seed in the 4A football playoffs, which begin on Friday night.

    He becomes the 16th local commit of the 2015 class, including the third to pick Air Force.

  • Regis Jesuit’s Matt Schmidt commits to Texas for baseball

    Regis Jesuit senior Matt Schmidt has committed to Texas to play baseball, he announced Tuesday evening on Twitter.

    Schmidt, a corner infielder, hit .382 with two home runs, 17 RBIs and seven doubles as a junior last season. He helped the Raiders reach the Class 5A championship game, where they eventually fell to Rocky Mountain.

    The 6-foot-2, 195-pounder will join a Texas program that has historically been among the best in the nation. The Longhorns have won six national championships, second only to Southern California (12) along with Louisiana State (six).

    Last season, Texas was one win away from reaching the College World Series finals. It was the program’s eighth trip to the College World Series since 2000.

    Schmidt becomes the 19th known local Division I baseball commit from the Class of 2015.

  • Regis Jesuit’s Goodwin, three-time diving champ, commits to Missouri

    Regis Jesuit senior Kyle Goodwin, who has won three consecutive Class 5A individual diving championships as part of the Raiders’ swim and dive team, has committed to Missouri.

    “It was a tough decision, but we think he made a good choice,” Goodwin’s mother, Lisa, wrote in an email on Wednesday night.

    Last spring, Goodwin’s mark of 559.25 points in the 1-meter event was the fifth-highest in state history. It set him up with a chance to be the first boy to win four diving titles in state history.

    That followed championships as a sophomore (525.05 points) and a freshman (533.25).

    Former St. Mary’s Academy diver Alexa Beckwith, herself a four-time diving champion, is a freshman at Missouri this fall.

    Missouri finished 16th as team at the NCAA championships last season.

  • Chatfield’s Winkler commits to Miami (Ohio) for baseball

    Kyle Winkler, a key figure in Chatfield’s baseball successful season last spring, announced on Monday night that he had committed to Miami (Ohio) to play baseball.

    The 6-foot-1, 195-pound Winkler, a senior, led the Chargers with a .525 batting average last season, and also had three home runs, eight doubles and 24 RBIs.

    Chatfield went 20-4 last season en route to reaching the Final 8. The Chargers are again expected to be one of Class 5A’s top teams in 2015.

    PrepColorado.com reported that Winkler would likely play third base in college.

    Miami (Ohio) plays in Division I’s Mid-American Conference, and went 26-30 last year.

    The Redhawks don’t currently have any other Colorado players on their roster, though 2014 Fairview grad Sam Martin is on the university’s football team, and caught four touchdowns in a win over UMass on Saturday.

    Winkler is also the quarterback for Chatfield’s football team. He has thrown for 942 yards and thrown for for nine touchdowns in the school’s hurry-up attack. Chatfield is 2-4 thus far this season.

    He becomes the 14th known local baseball commit from the Class of 2015. Last year’s class produced 129 baseball recruits, including 46 Division I players.
