    A roundup of Jeffco prep highlights from March with Dennis Pleuss, Jeffco Public Schools’ Communication Specialist. This month’s edition features state wrestling action where Pomona came away with another Class 5A team title, along with three individual crowns and Jefferson captured a pair of individual titles. The spring season got underway despite the ‘Bomb Cyclone’. Green Mountain scored a shutout victory over area-rival Lakewood in girls soccer action at Lakewood Memorial Field. At Trailblazer Stadium, Wheat Ridge boys lacrosse suffered a tough overtime loss and Conifer girls lacrosse dominated Summit. We finish with action from the 2019 Jeffco High School Senior Basketball Games at the Gold Crown Field House.

  • Kent Denver edges No. 9 Chatfield in girls lacrosse opener

    LAKEWOOD — The opening day sun shined on Kent Denver’s girls lacrosse team late Thursday afternoon at Trailblazer Stadium.

    The Sun Devils opened their season with an impressive 15-13 comeback victory against Chatfield, ranked No. 9 in the CHSAANow.com preseason poll.

    The Chargers got out to an early 4-1 lead in the first handful of minutes with goals by seniors Bailey Truex, Ryley Caron, along with freshmen Makenna Mant and Grace Talbot. However, Kent Denver scored six of the final seven goals of the opening half to grab a 9-7 lead at halftime.

    Kent Denver senior Madeleine Hunt led the way with five goals. Junior Caroline Shay and sophomore Kelsey Shankle added three goals each for the Sun Devils. Shay and sophomore Elenor Hunt scored goals in the final two minutes to break a 13-13 tie to seal the victory.

    Caron finished with five goals and Talbot pitched in four tallies in the loss for the Chargers. Chatfield will try to bounce back with a road game Saturday at Cheyenne Mountain. Kent Denver has its home opener Tuesday, March 12, against Chaparral.
