  • Regionals lead to changes in boys golf rankings

All but one boys golf regional completed play last week, and that made for a number of changes to CHSAANow.com’s boys golf polls this week.

The No. 1 teams — Regis Jesuit (5A), Valor Christian (4A) and Alexander Dawson (3A) — stayed put, but a total of seven new teams joined the rankings. In 5A, Fossil Ridge (No. 8) and Grand Junction (No. 10) joined; 4A added Coronado (No. 7), Steamboat Springs (No. 9) and Thompson Valley (No. 10); while new to 3A were Eaton (No. 5), and Aspen (No. 7).

Complete rankings for all classes are below.

  • 5A boys golf tournament moved to Murphy Creek

Boys golf’s state tournament will move to Murphy Creek in Aurora after flooding made CommonGround unplayable.

Assistant commissioner Tom Robinson announced the change Wednesday afternoon. The tournament will be held Sept. 30-Oct. 1.

“We’re really fortunate that a number of golf courses stepped up to be the 5A site, understanding what happened to CommonGround,” Robinson said. “What we’re praying for, really, is that CommonGround has a golf course when they get all the water pumped out of that area. It’s more about CommonGround and can they survive this.”

This is from Murphy Creek’s website:

With more than 80 bunkers, stunning water features and wide, rolling fairways, Murphy Creek is truly a golf experience. The greens are large and fair and the prairie-links course challenges and entertains all levels of golfers. It was the site of The 2008 U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship. Also ranked in Golf Digest’s America’s Top 10 Best New Courses for 2001, the Homestead at Murphy Creek is an exceptional course, a Colorado winner.
