  • 5A state golf in search of new site due to flooding

Flooding at CommonGround Golf Course in Aurora has CHSAA in search of a new host for the Class 5A state golf tournament, according to assistant commissioner Tom Robinson.

“We have to move it,” Robinson said, noting the standing water all over the course.

Three options are being considered to host the 5A tournament: Raccoon Creek in Littleton, site of Monday’s 5A Western regional; Murphy Creek in Aurora, site of Wednesday’s 5A Central regional; or Saddle Rock in Aurora, which has hosted a championship in the past.

The new site will be determined on Wednesday.

“That will give everybody notice and plenty of time” to play the course, Robinson said.

Robinson said it doesn’t make a difference that regionals had already been played at Raccoon Creek and Murphy Creek.

“They will have already played the regional (course) before they played the regional, so teams would have been there a number of times,” Robinson said. “They’ll also have time between now and the time we announce it to get to either one of those courses.”

The 5A tournament is scheduled for Sept. 30-Oct. 1.

Qualifiers from this week’s regional tournaments will participate in the 3A, 4A and 5A tournaments.

  • Live scoring available for boys golf regionals, state championships

For the first time this season, CHSAA will present live scoring for every golf regional and state championship.

The service, provided by iWanamaker, will be available on CHSAANow.com, as well as your mobile device. A full schedule and links to each regional scoreboard are below.

“Technology exists to allow for real-time scoring and we have the opportunity to partner with iWanamaker, a company on the leading-edge of this technology,” CHSAA commissioner Paul Angelico said. “We’re excited to bring this to the state golf championships and look forward to providing tee-to-green scoring coverage in partnership with iWanamaker.”

The recent rainstorms and flooding have changed the schedule for the regionals.
