CHSAANow launches new app for mobile devices

CHSSANow app

CHSAANow has launched a new mobile app, and it is now available for Apple and Android devices.

The app, which is free, features much of what is also available on CHSAANow.com, but it is native to mobile devices and will provide a faster and more unique experience for mobile users.

It provides up-to-the minute news, features and information from around the state. The app also has valuable resources such as bylaws, calendars and bulletin board information.

It also is connected to our YouTube account, as well as our social media presence.

In short, the CHSAANow app contains everything you ever wanted to know about Colorado high school sports and activities in one spot.

New features are also planned for native development into the app, such as scoreboards, RPI standings, postseason brackets and live coverage capabilities. This is version 1.0 — much more is to come!

The app can be found by following these links:

Alternatively, mobile users can scan the following QR code to download the app:

CHSAANow.com has been redesigned

AURORA — We’ve given CHSAANow.com a redesign. If you’re reading this, that’s probably already apparent.

Why? Well, for starters, we wanted to. But we also felt that the site, launched in July 2013, needed to change its look after three years of existence. We are always striving to keep our content and ideas fresh on this site, and we felt the design should match that philosophy.

We’ve tinkered with CHSAANow.com’s look and feel in the past, but those have been small changes. Still, those changes have been adding up over the years, and it began to resemble a layering of duct tape. Without getting too much in the weeds, this new design allowed us to clean up some of those things, and, more importantly, it has also allowed us to speed up how quickly the page loads.

Fret not, everything is still in the same spot. We’ve left our navigation intact, and the URLs still point to the same places they did last week — or last year. Should you need to get to CHSAA.org, that link remains prominent in the menu.

Finally, our site’s goal hasn’t changed. We’ll continue to strive to provide the best coverage of Colorado high school sports and activities. The only difference is the way it looks.

We’ve got some other exciting projects in the works, stuff we can hopefully announce in the next few weeks. Until then, should you have any questions, concerns or comments about anything we’re doing here on CHSAANow.com — including this redesign — please feel free to drop me an email at rcasey@chsaa.org.

New Mailbag feature coming later this week

We’re set to launch a new Mailbag feature later this week where we answer your questions about high school sports and activities in Colorado.

But first: We need your questions.

Ask away using this form, or on Twitter via this button:

Questions can be on any variety of subjects, including sports in season, sports out of season; rules and policies; activities — whatever. Just so long as it (kind of) connects to high school activities in some way.

We’ll try to get to as many as we can of them.

Live coverage plans during the 2013-14 season kick off with Zero Week chat

A major piece to our plan for the 2013-14 school year is live coverage. And you’ll get your first taste of it next Friday during Zero Week.

First and foremost, get familiar with our Live Coverage hub. You’ll find it at rcasey.wpengine.com/live. There, we will list our upcoming live events, as well as archive past coverage.

So, what will we be doing? For starters, we’ll be all over Friday night football from Zero Week through the end of the season. Some weeks, we’ll host the chat from a big game. Other times, we’ll host it from our office. But you can always expect the same features:

  • Live updates and scores from around the state. This is thanks in large part to our partnership with MaxPreps (our official stat partner) and their Qwixcore functionality. Everything will feed into a scrolling scoreboard.
  • CHSAA.tv integration. Our network is live-streaming games around the state.
  • Reader interaction. At a game? Comment on your phone. Looking for a score? Ask for it.
  • Multimedia. Photos and video from games as they’re happening.
  • Aggregated updates from Twitter users around the state using the #copreps hashtag.
  • Behind-the-scenes access and insights.
  • And much more.

The football season technically gets underway with Silver Creek’s Zero Week game in Florida next Thursday. But, with 16 games slated for next Friday, we will open our live coverage for the season then.

Aside from football, we’re also planning live coverage from major state championship events, such as the softball playoffs or the state volleyball tournament.

Bottom line? If a major event is happening in Colorado high school sports, you’ll find live coverage of it here.
