Jeffco Preps With Pleuss is a monthly roundup of Jeffco prep highlights hosted by Dennis Pleuss, Jeffco Public Schools’ sports information director. This month’s edition features the conclusion of the winter sports season. Jefferson, Pomona and Columbine all brought home individual state titles from the state wrestling championships at Pepsi Center. The Panthers captured yet another Class 5A team title. Three Jeffco basketball team advanced down to the Denver Coliseum in the state basketball tournaments. Columbine boys and Ralston Valley girls both faced the defending state champions in their 5A state quarterfinal games. Green Mountain girls made it all the way to the Final 4 of the 4A state tournament. We also have some words about the delay of the spring sports season.

This month’s edition features the girls swimming state championship at VMAC in Thornton. Evergreen captured another Class 3A team title. Ralston Valley diver Izzy Gregersen won the 5A diving state championship and Chatfield junior Kathryn Shanley swam to two individual titles. Ralston Valley and Columbine locked up in a big Class 5A Jeffco boys basketball game that came down to the wire. Before the postseason started, Wheat Ridge took a non-league victory over Bear Creek on the hardwood. Green Mountain’s girls basketball continued its historic season. The big National Letter of Intent Signing Day on Feb. 5 was celebrated by several Jeffco schools.

This month’s edition features Jefferson wrestlers had a solid showing at the Ron Granieri Memorial Invitational at Arvada West High School. We take in boys basketball action where Golden and Evergreen squared off in Class 4A Jeffco League action. Pomona boys basketball team traveled to Lakewood High School for a battle of the ‘big cats’. Green Mountain’s girls basketball is leading the pack in the 4A Jeffco League standings this winter and had no problem with Golden on a Saturday afternoon. We finish with highlights from the Adapted Athletics Basketball Day at Gold Crown Field House.

This month’s edition features one final look back at the 2019 football season that concluded with Columbine facing Cherry Creek in the Class 5A state championship game. Dakota Ridge boys cross country team was honored for its back-to-back 5A team state titles with an all-school assembly. The basketball season got going in a hurry. Green Mountain hosted the annual Paul Davis Classic, along with Wheat Ridge boys and girls hoopsters squaring off against Lakewood and Alameda International. The first National Letter of Intent Signing Day was also a topic before the calendar turned to 2020.

Video: Pomona gymnastics makes history
Pomona’s gymnastics team made history Nov. 7 at Thornton High School. The Panthers won their fifth consecutive Class 5A gymnastics team state title holding off Overland. Pomona became the first gymnastics program to win five in a row in the largest classification. Senior Kaylie Berens also won the individual all-around title for the second time during her stellar high school career.
