  • Cherry Creek WR Joseph Parker commits to Wyoming

Joseph Parker, a senior wide receiver at Cherry Creek, announced on Twitter late Sunday night that he has committed to Wyoming:

He becomes the second member from the Class of 2015 to commit to Wyoming’s football program, joining Gateway linebacker Kevin Prosser.

According to the Wyoming Star-Tribune, it was his friendship with former Grandview wideout Tanner Gentry, who is now starting for the Cowboys, that helped him commit.

“I told him I got offered, and he was saying, ‘Commit! Commit! Commit! Commit! Commit!’ He was just being Tanner,” Parker told the paper. “But it’d be really cool to probably in the future play with Tanner.”

He was also impressed by Wyoming’s staff, led by new first-year Craig Bohl.

“When you look into their eyes and meet them, you can tell that they really care about you and they want you and they want you to succeed, and they know how to succeed … The coaching staff was probably the biggest reason why I committed,” he told the Star-Tribune.

Through Cherry Creek’s first three games, Parker has a team-high nine receptions for 136 yards and a touchdown. He also has one rush for 64 yards, and handles the team’s punt returns (four for 79 yards).

He also had offers from Colorado State and Northern Colorado, according to his Rivals.com profile. His Hudl profile lists his 40-yard dash at 4.4 seconds.

Parker also runs track, and qualified for the 100-meter dash at last spring’s Class 5A state meet.

He is the 12th member of the 2015 class to commit to a Division I (FBS) school. Last year’s class produced 31 FBS players, and another 16 who signed with Division I (FCS) programs.

  • Arickaree/Woodlin takes over No. 1 spot in 6-man football poll

Turns out a win over a No. 1 team does help you move up to the top spot.

Arickaree/Woodlin, No. 2 in CHSAANow’s 6-man football poll last week, moved up to No. 1 this week following its 60-30 win over Stratton/Liberty on Friday night.

Coach David Saffer was expecting the move after the game on Friday.

"We’ve got a target on our backs," he told Colorado Preps’ Scoreboard Show. "We’ve just got to stay focused and keep working."

Saffer’s squad was the only new No. 1 team this week. Valor Christian (5A), Pine Creek (4A), Lutheran (3A), Brush (2A), Paonia (1A) and Dayspring Christian (8-man) all held firm atop their respective rankings.

Valor held on to the top spot despite its loss to Chandler (Ariz.). But the Eagles are no longer a unanimous selection: they received 13 of the 18 first-place votes this week.

No. 2 Pomona, No. 3 Grandview and No. 4 Ralston Valley — which got three — also received first-place votes in 5A this week. Fairview rounds out the top five after bumping up one spot.

Regis Jesuit is sixth, Cherry Creek fell to seventh following its loss to Jordan (Utah), Overland moved up to eighth and Cherokee Trail fell to No. 9 after losing to Regis Jesuit. Doherty is the lone newcomer in 5A this week, and joins at No. 10.

Among the biggest movers this week was Fort Collins, which jumped up from No. 9 to No. 5 in the 4A poll following its win over Windsor last week.

The 4A ranking added Pueblo Centennial (No. 10), 3A added Berthoud (also No. 10) and St. Mary’s joined 2A (No. 9). In 1A, newcomer Rye is No. 10, and 6-man has two new teams this week: No. 9 Hanover and No. 10 Weldon Valley.

The rankings, voted upon by coaches and select media members, are the official polls of the Association. Polls are released each Monday.

Fairview, which went an astounding 7-0 last week, has jumped into CHSAANow’s Class 5A volleyball rankings this week. The Knights are No. 8.

The Knights won the Cherry Creek Bruin classic over the weekend. Included was a 2-1 win over No. 4 Cherry Creek in the title game.

Rampart continued to lead the 5A poll, a spot the Rams have occupied since the preseason. The other No. 1s also stayed put: Lewis-Palmer (4A), Eaton (3A), Resurrection Christian (2A) and Fleming (1A).

Other newcomers this week include Mead (No. 10 in 4A), Pagosa Springs (No. 10 in 3A), Cedaredge (No. 10 in 2A) and La Veta (No. 9 in 1A).

  • Dakota Ridge remains No. 1, but 5A softball rankings continue to change

    Cherry Creek Castle View softball
Castle View jumped up to No. 3 in this week’s 5A softball poll. (Jack Eberhard/JacksActionShots.com)

Things remain crazy in Class 5A softball this season. For the first time this season, the No. 1 team in CHSAANow’s rankings stayed put, but five different teams received first-place votes.

It speaks to the season as a whole, where seemingly every week another ranked team is upset.

So while No. 1 Dakota Ridge actually extended the gap its has on No. 2 Brighton this week, things remained shaky behind them. Castle View moved from No. 8 to No. 3, Chaparral went from unranked to No. 5 and Fossil Ridge from No. 9 to No. 7.

Dakota Ridge (six), Brighton, Chaparral, Mountain Range (two) and Fossil Ridge all received first-place votes this week.

The 4A poll continued to be led by Frederick and added Pueblo West (No. 7) and Woodland Park (No. 10).

In 3A, Strasburg extended its stay at No. 1. Cedaredge (No. 7) and Rocky Ford (No. 10) both joined this week.

  • Live regional scores return for boys golf this season

AURORA — In partnership with CHSAA, iWanamaker will continue to provide live regional boys golf scores this season.

The company handled live scoring for boys golf’s regional and state tournaments last season, and did the same for the girls in the spring. Once again this season, the live scoreboards will be available on CHSAANow.com.

“The whole idea of the live scoring with iWanamaker has really enhanced high school golf,” said CHSAA associate commissioner Tom Robinson, who administers golf. “It’s a way to access what’s going on in golf, which seems to be a positive for most people. In terms of high school golf, that’s really wasn’t on the radar.

“iWanamaker makes it more accessible for all the participants, and the parents and the fans, and therefore hopefully to more people who might be interested in golf, as well.”

Live scoreboards for each region will post on CHSAANow.com the day of their respective tournaments, and we’ll link them below when they do.
