Cherry Creek and Golden have joined this week’s CHSAANow.com field hockey ranking.
The Bruins are No. 4, while Golden debuted at No. 5.
Colorado Academy is still proving to be the team in to beat in field hockey. The Mustangs — winners of 47 games in a row, and unbeaten over their past 58 — held firm to the top spot.
Palmer Ridge and Kent Denver also held on to their respective spots at No. 2 and No. 3.
The ranking, voted upon by coaches, is the official poll of the Association. Rankings are released each Monday during the season.

Three new teams stand atop this week’s CHSAANow.com boys soccer rankings, meaning there’s a new No. 1 team in each classification.
Boulder (Class 5A), Evergreen (4A) and KIPP Collegiate (3A) all now lead their respective classes.
In 5A, Boulder moved up due in part to former No. 1 Broomfield’s loss to Mountain Range in overtime last week. The Panthers got eight of the 10 first-place votes to take over.
Fort Collins also moved up, to No. 2, as did No. 3 ThunderRidge and No. 4 Arvada West. Fairview rounds out the top-5. ThunderRidge jumped from No. 6 to No. 3 after an impressive week in which they outscored their opponents 11-3 in three games.
Broomfield fell to sixth, Cherry Creek is seventh and Rocky Mountain is up to No. 8.
Aurora Central and Far Northeast are this week’s newcomers to the 5A poll, landing at No. 9 and No. 10 respectively.
The top seeds from last week’s CHSAANow.com boys soccer rankings all fell out of place this week. In Class 5A, Broomfield was topped by Mountain Range in overtime making Boulder the new No. 1.
Former 4A No. 1 Cheyenne Mountain was upset at the hands of Pueblo West, which helped Evergreen shoot to the top spot.
The occupants of last week’s 4A poll remain the same, but with Cheyenne Mountain falling out of the top spot, there was some shakeup in the order. Valor Christian jumped from No. 4 to No. 2 and Littleton landed at No. 6 this week, up two spots from their ranking last week.
After recording a 3-0 win over Kent Denver Thursday, the Kent Denver Sun Devils played Fountain Valley to a 1-1 draw, allowing KIPP to take over the top spot in 3A.
Other big moves were made in 3A as Faith Christian made the jump from No. 6 to No. 3. There were also three newcomers to the 3A ranks as DSST Stapleton (No. 5), Jefferson Academy (No. 8) and Fountain Valley — fresh off its tie with Kent Denver — (No. 10) all joined the poll this week

Legend has returned to the top of the CHSAANow.com softball rankings in Class 5A.
Following a 3-2 loss to Loveland, Mountain Range fell out of the top spot in 5A, allowing Legend to move in at No. 1 this week. The win also helped Loveland break into this week’s poll as they come in at No. 10.
Loveland was the only new addition in 5A, but plenty of other moves were made. Ralston Valley jumped from No. 5 to No. 2 on the strength of a 3-0 record from last week. Chaparral also made a significant jump this week going from No. 10 to No. 7.
In 4A, Frederick retained the top spot, and Erie stayed firm at No. 2. Valor Christian comes in at No. 3 and Wheat Ridge at No. 4, with those two teams trading places from last week.
Discovery Canyon (No. 9) and Pueblo Central (No. 10) are the new additions to the 4A poll this week.
Strasburg remains the No. 1 team in 3A after receiving every first-place vote. Brush cracks its way into the rankings at No. 9.

Ben Butler, a senior at SkyView Academy who was the individual champion at last season’s Class 3A cross country state meet, competed at the World Mountain Running Championships in Wales on Saturday.
Butler — who also won the 3,200-meter race at the 3A state track meet, and was second in the 1,600 — was one of seven junior runners selected by the Mountain Ultra Trail Executive Committee of USA Track and Field. He finished ninth in the junior men’s race Saturday in a field of more than 100.
“I began looking for different ways to represent the United States and decided to try for the Junior Mountain Running Team, but wasn’t sure I had a real chance,” Butler said in a release from the school.
Butler was notified late at night on July 25 that he would be part of the Junior US Mountain Running team. To be eligible, male athletes aged 16-19 must race a 5K road or cross country time in under 16:45. Butler ran 16:18.2 in winning 3A cross country last season.
“After that call,” Butler said, “I couldn’t sleep because I was so excited to be able to represent the U.S. in this national race. This opportunity is a dream coming true for me.”
The course at the World Mountain Running Championships in Wales was a two-lap up-and-downhill race that gains 800 feet of elevation per lap. It is an 8.9 km course.
“I’ve been putting in extra training time running hills and increasing my mileage to about 70 miles a week in order to prepare,” Butler said. “The opportunity to put on the Team USA jersey is unbelievable.”
Said Jenn Burgess, the secondary principal at SkyView Academy: “We are so proud of Ben Butler and his notable accomplishments in the classroom as well as his remarkable athletic achievements. He embodies SkyView Academy’s vision for each one of its students, and is a young man known for the content of his excellent character and his strong leadership.”
