Mesa Ridge senior Kylee Shook was named a McDonald’s All-American on Sunday night, earning one of the most prestigious honors a high school basketball player can attain in their career.
Shook was the lone representative from Colorado named to the girls team. Highlands Ranch seniors Blaire Braxton and Symone Starks were also nominated.
There were no Colorado players selected to the boys team, though De’Ron Davis of Overland was nominated.
Shook, a Louisville recruit, leads the state in all classes with 29.6 points per game. She’s also averaging 15.0 rebounds, 4.9 blocks, 3.2 steals and 2.1 assists per game.
She already owns the state’s career record for blocks, and has a chance to break the mark for rebounds, as well.
Shook joins a prestigious list of Colorado girls in the McDonald’s All-American Game, which annually recognizes the top 24 players from both the East and West part of the country.
Shook becomes the fifth Colorado girls player selected to the game. The most recent was Abby Waner of ThunderRidge in 2005. Also selected: Cissy Pierce of Heritage (2004), Elizabeth Sherwood of Highlands Ranch (2003), and Ann Strother of Highlands Ranch (2002).
Colorado has had three boys ever selected to the game, the most recent of which was George Washington alum Chauncey Billups in 1995.
The 2016 McDonald’s All-American Game will be March 30 at the United Center in Chicago.

Quite an effort from Arapahoe holding one of our state’s top scorers, Colbey Ross, to single digits when Eaglecrest came to visit. However, another Raptor — sophomore Victor Garnes — stepped up with 12 and helped Eaglecrest pull off the tight 2-point victory.
Chatfield, new to the 5A top-10, didn’t let Antonio Capley’s 19 points stop them from beating Ralston Valley in a low scoring 42-38 tilt.
Had to do a little Ball Fever “dig” on this Noah Saunders young man we’ve been hearing a lot about from Falcon. He didn’t let us down with a 27-point, 13-rebound double-double but it wasn’t quite enough as they came up short by 2 to Lewis Palmer due to a 17-8 fourth quarter advantage for the Rangers.
Cole Harris with 20 points as Golden continues hot streak with league win over D’Evelyn.
