5A girls soccer quarterfinal roundup: Broomfield wins in overtime

Gia Lemley scored the winning goal with 3:40 remaining in overtime to lift Broomfield girls soccer to a 3-2 win over Pine Creek in the Class 5A girls soccer semifinals on Wednesday.

It was Lemley’s second goal of the game. It capped a game-long rally for the Eagles.

Pine Creek took a 1-0 lead on Ryanne Parker’s goal just 20 seconds in, but Broomfield rallied with two goals midway through the first half to take a 2-1 halftime lead.

Pine Creek’s Jayne Lydiatt tied the game in the second half, and it wound up in overtime.

(3) ThunderRidge 4, (11) Cherry Creek 1

At Shea Stadium: Despite giving up an early goal, Cherry Creek was able to tie the game and the score remained 1-1 as they reach halftime.

But three second half goals for the Grizzlies sealed the deal and they will play in the Class 5A semifinals.

(2) Grandview 3, (23) Chaparral 0

At Stutler Bowl: A Mandy Duggan goal extended the Wolves’ lead to 2-0 in the second half. They were able to tack on one more to make it a 3-0 final, allowing them to advance to the final four.

They’ll take on ThunderRidge in the semifinals on Saturday.

Chaparral’s Cinderella run ended after knocking out No. 10 Ralston Valley and No. 7 Rock Canyon.

At Shea Stadium: The Golden Eagles, missing star Mallory Pugh, knocked out the defending champions.

Megan Massey scored the lone goal.

Mountain Vista will play Broomfield in the semifinals.
