Zayne Stam paces Weld Central in win over Arvada

ARVADA — Weld Central leaned on sophomore Zayne Stam early and often late Friday afternoon at the North Area Athletic Complex.

Stam had 12 carries for 251 yards and four touchdowns in the first half against Arvada. The sophomore was unstoppable as he carried the Rebels to a 27-0 halftime lead. Weld Central went on to win 40-7.

Arvada did break the shutout with a touchdown pass from senior quarterback Cody Nelson to junior Ivan Rodriguez to open the scoring in the third quarter. 

Weld Central answered early in the fourth quarter with Stam’s fifth touchdown run of the game, a 3-yard plunge into the end zone to push the Rebels’ lead to 34-7. The Rebels scored one final touchdown in the final 30 seconds with a 13-yard touchdown run by senior quarterback Tinaiden Thompson.
