21 years ago, Athletic Directors from Pueblo County High School and the newly opened Pueblo West High School sat down to discuss the possibility of an annual cross county rivalry game that would allow the football programs to generate school and community spirit along with team esprit de corps. Mimicking the success of the Canon Game and Bell Game in nearby School District 60 – the Pigskin Classic was born.



In front of a large crowd, the Pueblo West High School Cyclone football team once again dominated the Pueblo County Hornets in capturing the 21st annual Pigskin Classic on Friday in a shutout 48-0 at Dutch Clark Stadium.

It’s the 14th time that the Pueblo West Cyclones have defeated their District 70 rivals and now lead the overall series 14-7. The Cyclones moved to 1-1 with the win while the Hornets drop to 1-1. For clarification, the Cyclones are a 4A school, while the Hornets are in the 3A classification.
