No. 4 Montrose boys basketball moves to 20-0 with tight win over Grand Junction

In front of a big senior night crowd, fourth ranked Montrose faced Grand Junction at home on Friday in their final league home game. Montrose won their 20th game of the season, 48-33.

It was a low scoring first quarter, with Montrose leading 11-9. The Tigers made a three pointer to start the second to take a small lead. Montrose then scored 13 in a row to take a 24-12 lead. They kept the lead, 28-17, at halftime.

The Tigers made a game of it in the second half. They got to within four at 32-28. It was 33-28 after three quarters.

The Tigers would not get any closer, as Montrose upped their lead to 40-33. The Tigers then had to foul, and Montrose came through winning 48-33.

“Great team win tonight against a very quick and athletic Grand Junction team,” Montrose head coach Ryan Voehringer said.” They are extremely hard to guard, very disciplined and well coached. It was a grind out game with limited offensive possessions. Credit GJ for a great game plan. We were led by Luke Hutto with 19 points and Trey Reese with 14 points, six rebounds and six assists.”

“I thought it was a great team win tonight,” Luke Hutto said. “Grand Junction is a disciplined team and did a great job of limiting our positions. Trey Reese had yet another great game for us. Senior night is something really special and this is a game I will never forget.”

“We had a really great game tonight,” Trey Reese added. “Our defense was really strong, which allowed us to rise above.”

Montrose will host Steamboat Springs, Feb. 14. The Tigers will be at Fruita Monument, Feb. 18.
