Eighth-ranked Montrose faced league foe Grand Junction on Thursday and won 6-3. On Friday, the teams reunited and Grand Junction came away with a 12-10 victory to split the conference series.
“We struggled making routine plays,” Montrose head coach Landon Wareham said.
In Friday’s contest, the Montrose led 2-0 after the first inning before the Tigers tied the game in the top of the second and the game continued to go back and forth.
Montrose’s Jackson Barnett singles and scored on a double by Jaxon Kattner. Kattner scored on a single by Luke Hutto.
After Grand Junction’s Drew Woytek doubled, Noah Martinez hit a two run home run.
“I think our approach at the plate was fantastic and I love how my two pitchers fought to get outs on the mound,” Grand Junction head coach Will Dixon said.
Will Applegate had a two-run home run and four RBIs. Landon Scarbrough had a solo home run with a total of four RBIs. Noah Martinez had a two-run home run and four RBIs.
Brett Woytek struck out seven batters on the mound.
David Dominquez had a triple, a home run and four RBIs.
Gage Wareham had a single, a triple and struck out three batters. Titus Weese struck out three batters.
