3A state track: Sierra Haberman defends girls high jump title and other winners from Day 1

LAKEWOOD – Setting a personal record in your final high school competition at the state meet is something many young track and field athletes hope for.

In the Class 3A girls high jump on Thursday at Jefferson County Stadium, Jefferson Academy senior Sierra Haberman did exactly that. In fact, she did it twice. And in doing so, Haberman defended her state title in the event from last season.

Her top height was 5 feet, 6 inches, which was one inch better than the 5-foot, 5-inch jump that had already locked up the title and stood as her PR for only a short time.

“It was a really tough competition,” Haberman said. “Everyone was doing really amazing and that competition kept going all the way up through those top heights. There were a lot of PR’s and not just my own. I think it was that competition was what made me able to get 5-5 and then 5-6. I think all of us just pushed each other to do our best.”

Berthoud won the 3A girls 3,200-meter relay with a time of 9:29.85.

Frontier Academy won with 3A boys 3,200-meter relay with a time of 8:11.44. Liberty Common’s Justin Bate won the 3A boys pole vault, clearing 13 feet, 6 inches. Classical Academy’s Jordan Wenger won the 3A boys triple jump with a mark of 47 feet, 2.5 inches. Sam Johnson of Woodland Park threw 137-2 to win the 3A boys discus.

Liberty Common’s Isabel Allori ran a time of 10:57.69 to win the 3A girls 3,200-meter run.

Eaton’s Logan Gullett won the 3A boys 3,200-meter run with a time of 9:38.26.

Isabella Coscetti of Manitou Springs jumped 37 feet, 8.75 inches to claim gold in the 3A girls triple jump.
