No. 6 Tigers ground No. 8 Golden Eagles on last-second bid

FREDERICK — There’s nothing quite like a mild heart attack to welcome fans back to the football season.

On Friday night on the road, Class 3A No. 6 Holy Family stunned No. 8 Frederick in a last-second bid to ground the Golden Eagles with a 27-26 final score. Junior quarterback Rylan Cooney and junior wide receiver Jaxon Grable played hero when they connected for a 1-yard score with 11.6 seconds left on the clock to seal the deal.

“We made a big run, had a big play,” Cooney said. “We had a timeout and I told them, ‘Guys, we still got to put this in. We got to put this in. One more play. One more play.’ We saw what they were doing, they were blitzing the A-gap and we spun around, made a play on the corner. If he came to me, I’d dump it over. If he stayed on me. I’d run it in.”
