AURORA – The final six regional champions were crowned across three classifications at today’s cross country regional championships throughout the state. Crested Butte, Golden View and Rocky Ford claimed titles in Class 2A today, while Salida and Holy Family were crowned champions in Class 3A. Fairview captured the lone Class 5A regional title handed out today.
2A Region 2
COLORADO SPRINGS – Colorado Springs Christian Andrew Bel claimed the individual title of the 2A Region 2 Cross Country Championships at Monument Valley Park Friday, while Golden View collected the team title.
Bel crossed first in 16:17.54, while Golden View’s Yosef Heldt took second in 16:49.10 and Lotus School for Excellence’s Ayuub Hasaan was third in 16:57.66.
In fourth place was Golden View’s Ezra Knoell (17:02.44), while fifth place went to Denver Christian’s Ian Reynolds (17:07.19). Peyon picked up sixth place, with Gabe Gatti finishing in 17:08.57.
Wiggins’ Chase Bodine finished in seventh place with at ime of 17:13.23. he was followed by Banning Lewis Prep’s Jaxon Taylor (17:22.95) in eighth and teammate Cade Green (17:24.56) in ninth. Max Miller, from The Vanguard School, rounded out the top-10 by finishing the race in 17:28.55.
Golden View earned the team title by 10 points, defeating Banning Lewis Prep, 37-47. Wiggins was third, collecting 58 points, while The Vanguard School was fourth (75 points) and Peyton was fifth (84).
2A Region 3
BUENA VISTA – The 2A Region 3 Cross Country Championship at the Buena Vista High School Track in Buena Vista was hotly contested, as fourth place and first place wound up being separated by a mere 20 points.
Rocky Ford ultimately was the team champion, scoring 35 points, and featuring two top-10 racers, with Josh Snyder (18:37, placing sixth) and Tyler Fehrenbach (18:54, placing ninth). Thomas MacLaren (43 points, finishing second) and Springfield (55 points) each had a top-10 finisher of their own, thanks to MacLaren’s Shawn Kipchumba (18:17, placing fourth) and Springfield’s Mylo Lovejoy (18:24, placing fifth), while Centauri (53 points, finishing third) had two, thanks to Carson Bagwell (18:05, placing third) and Richardson Tuilleur (19:01, placing 10th).
Buena Vista (79 points) closed out the top 5 teams, despite not having a top-10 individual.
Primero’s Anthony Pena (17:45) won the individual championship, while St. Mary’s James Beam (18:01, placing second), Rye’s David Maroney (18:41, placing seventh) and Sargent’s Westen Burkhart (18:42, placing eighth) all finished in the top 10.
2A Region 4
DOLORES – Rangely’s James Talbot (18:23) recorded a scorching-fast time at the 2A Region 4 Cross Country Championship at Boggy Draw Trails. He won the individual championship and crossed the finish line more than 30 seconds before Grand Valley’s Craig Cotter (18:57), who came in second.
Crested Butte was the only team to have multiple top-10 individuals, with Cody Pleak (19:02, placing fourth) and Jake Pendy (19:20, placing sixth) among the top finishers.
The other top-10 individual finishers were Colorado Rocky Mountain School’s Ben Oldham (18:59, placing third), Cayson Burcham (19:13, placing fifth), Soroco’s Alan Mayer (19:35, placing seventh), Caprock Academy’s Lukas Olson (19:44, placing eighth), Telluride’s Sean McKillop (19:48.16, placing ninth) and Olathe’s Benjamin Kamperman (19:48.35, placing 10th).
The top five teams were Crested Butte (39 points), Caprock (68), Olathe (76), Ignacio (77) Colorado Rocky Mountain school (93).
3A Region 2
COLORADO SPRINGS – Salida boasted three top-10 finishers on their way to securing the 3A Region 2 Cross Country Championship at Monument Valley Park. The Spartans were represented among the top 10 individuals by Ezekiel Wilcox (16:27, finishing third), Ryan Osness (16:44, finishing sixth) and Jack Landry (17:24, finishing ninth).
Cole Krug, representing Lamar (107 points, placing fifth), won the individual championship with a 16:08 time. He was joined in the top 10 by teammate Joel Davis (17:06, placing seventh).
Manitou Springs (62 points, placing second) and Alamosa (79 points, placing third) also had multiple top-10 finishers. Manitou Springs had Cody Wyman (16:10, finishing second) and Cody Kelley (16:41, finishing fifth) in the top 10, while Alamosa was represented in the top 10 by Mario Villalba (16:38, finishing fourth) and Jeremiah DeLaCerda (17:27, finishing 10th).
Jake Colson, of Harrison, was the remaining top 10 individual (17:17, finishing eighth), while Woodland Park (102 points, placing fourth) was the lone top-five team that was without a top-10 individual.
3A Region 3
NORTHGLENN – Jefferson Academy claimed the top-two individual finishers at Northwest Open Space, but Holy Family put the next three runners across the line to claim the team title at the 3A Region 3 Cross Country Championships Friday.
Sean Beasley won the individual title with a winning time of 16:16, while Jefferson Academy teammate Rylan Mills crossed the line in 16:41. Holy Family’s Parker Nelson was third in 16:53, followed by teammates Garrett Smith (17:02) and James Grothe (17:20). Peak to Peak’s Jack Cerullo claimed sixth in 17:22, before Prospect Ridge’s Ezekiel Bote led a pack of runners across the line.
Bote claimed seventh with a time of 17:40, while Jefferson Academy’s Eliot Lindberg was eighth (17:41), Holy Family’s Gilbert Perez was ninth (17:42), and Peak to Peak’s Brenden Hartley narrowly beat Stargate’s Nick Hofer out of 10th, as they both crossed with at time of 17:44.
Holy Family put together a winning score of 36 and was followed by runner-up Jefferson Academy (44 points), Peak to Peak in third (55), Prospect Ridge in fourth (106) and Stargate in fifth (145).
5A Region 3
NORTHGLENN – Denver East’s Jonas Scudamore won the individual title at the 5A Region 3 Cross Country Championships at Northwest Open Space Friday, while Fairview claimed the team title.
Scudamore completed the course in 15:49, but had Fairview’s Holden Krizek on his heels, as Krizek finished second in 15:51. Boulder’s Morgan McCuen took third with a time of 16:05, while Erie’s Dillon Richardson took fourth in 16:11 and Fairview’s Jack Brown was fifth in 16:14.
Pomona claimed sixth place as Aden Reinoehl clocked a time of 16:19, before Erie’s Reid O’Brien led a pack of five across the line. O’Brien clocked a time of 16:23, good for seventh, while Boulder’s Ulysses Paulsrud turned in the same time and earned and eighth-place finish. Two seconds later, Boulder’s Lucas Wik narrowly edged Fairview’s Vincent Mangat out of ninth, as the two crossed in 16:25.
Fairview took the team title with 48 points. Erie was second at 58 points and Boulder was 10 points back at that and in third with 68 points. Broomfield (103 points) and Denver East (142) rounded out the top five teams.
