8M Football: Week 1 Playoff Results

AURORA – Week 1 of the Colorado High School Activities Association’s 8-Man Football Playoffs for the 2023 State Championships are underway. Live scores can be found on MaxPreps and select games will be streamed on the NFHS Network.

Saturday Results

No. 9 seed Sedgwick County started Saturday’s playoff action by upsetting No. 8 seed West Grand 56-28 to earn their spot in the quarterfinals. In the quarterfinals they’ll face No. 1 seed Mancos, who advanced by defeating Fowler on Friday.

No. 4 seed Lyons and No. 5 seed Dove Creek will face-off in the quarterfinals after both schools managed to defend their home turf in the first round. Lyons cruised past No. 13 seed Akron 60-12, while Dove Creek defeated No. 12 seed Vail Christian in a high-scoring 54-34 game.

No. 3 Haxtun played host to No. 14 seed Calhan and earned a 50-0 shutout victory to advance. In the quarterfinals, Haxtun will battle No. 6 seed Byers, after Byers beat No. 11 seed Sanford 28-16 — the second-closest 8-man game of the day.

The closest game of the day featured No. 7 seed Merino and No. 10 seed McClave, as Merino emerged with a 16-12 victory. They will travel to Simla in the quarterfinals, after Simla defeated No. 15 seed Front Range Christian 42-0.

Friday Results

CHSAA’s 8-Man playoffs kicked off Friday night with No. 1 seed Mancos playing host to No. 16 seed Fowler. Mancos cruised to a 52-0 shutout victory and, as a result, will face the winner of Saturday afternoon’s game between Sedgwick County and West Grand in the quarterfinals.
