Friday Results
The second round of CHSAA’s 5A Football Playoffs were completed Friday night. The first match of the night was between No. 8 Mountain Vista and No. 9 Castle View. Mountain Vista made the most of the homefield advantage and cruised to 52-20 victory to punch their ticket to the quarterfinals. In the quarterfinals, they will face No. 1 Cherry Creek. The Bruins shut out the No. 17 Legacy Lightning 31-0 in their second-round game.
Later, No. 5 Ralston Valley hosted No. 12 Rock Canyon and advanced to the quarterfinals thanks to an all-around performance, defeating the Jaguars 42-14. In the next round, Ralston Valley will play No. 4 Pine Creek, after Pine Creek defeated No. 13 Denver East 41-24.
On the other half of the bracket, No. 11 Grandview won a tight game against No. 6 Regis Jesuit 25-23 to advance. In the quarterfinals, they will play the winner of the No. 14 Chatfield, who completed the 28-21 overtime upset of No. 3 Arapahoe thanks to a goal line stand.
No. 2 Columbine continued their undefeated campaign against No. 18 Fountain Fort-Carson, winning 65-7. Next round, the Patriots will play the No. 10 Legend Titans. The Titans advanced by notching an impressive upset against No. 7 Valor Christian, defeating the Eagles 20-13
