The Colorado State High School Activities Association 2024 boys volleyball state championship is officially underway, with four teams advancing in the double-elimination tournament.
To begin the day, No. 1 Mountain Vista High School beat No. 8 Douglas County High School 3-0 (25-19, 25-15, 26-24). The Golden Eagles move on to the second round where they will face off against No. 4 Littleton Public Schools.
LPS beat the No 5 seed Grandview High School 3-1 (25-23, 21-25, 25-18, 25-19). The game between LPS and Mountain Vista starts at 5 p.m. tomorrow, whoever loses between the two schools will play Douglas County the same day at 7 p.m., where that team will look to avoid elimination.
No. 6 Fountain-Fort Carson beat No. 3 Eaglecrest High School 3-1 (25-22, 27-25, 10-25, 25-16) to complete the only upset of the State Championship tournament so far.
No. 2 Thornton High School beat No. 7 Cherokee Trail 3-1 (25-20, 25-19, 22-25, 25-21). Thornton advances to play Fountain-Fort Carson which will start at 5 p.m. tomorrow.
In the consolation bracket, Grandview kept their championship hopes alive, beating Douglas County 3-0 (25-22, 25-20, 25-22). Douglas County will play the loser of Fountain-Fort Carson and Thornton.
Eaglecrest also stayed alive in a thriller against Cherokee Trail winning 3-2 (25-18, 26-28, 15-25, 25-21, 15-13) . They will play the loser of Mountain Vista and LPS at 7 p.m. tomorrow.
