The four teams in the semifinals are No. 1 seed Merino, No. 2 seed Flatirons Academy, No. 5 seed Dove Creek and No. 6 seed Akron. Merino is slated to play Dove Creek, while Flatirons Academy is set to play Akron.
No. 1 seed Merino defeated No 16 seed Nucla, 10-2, and No. 9 seed Stratton, 15-6 to reach the final four. If the Rams win the state championship, it will be just the second baseball title in school history, with the other coming in 2022.
No. 2 seed Flatirons Academy advanced past No. 15 seed Sierra Grande, 17-1, and No. 10 seed Holly, 15-11. The Bison are pursuing the first baseball state championship in school history, though they have finished as runner up in two of the last three seasons.
No. 5 seed Dove Creek beat No. 12 seed Elbert, 12-1, and then upset No. 4 Simla, 5-4 to punch their ticket to the semifinals. The Bulldogs are looking for the second baseball championship in school history and the first since 2015.
No. 6 seed Akron reached the semifinal round by defeating No. 11 seed Evangel Christian Academy, 11-1, before beating No. 3 seed Eads in the quarterfinals, 11-0. Akron would be looking for it’s first baseball championship in school history.
